Springfield's 36-year-old super heavyweight will represent Queensland in the 105kg class at the Australian Weightlifting Championships in Melbourne on Saturday. The former Commonwealth top-10 ranked lifter held up 310kg in February to qualify for the national tournament. However, he was shocked when selected as Queensland's No.1 lifter following the omission of Olympian Damon Kelly with knee problems. "This is the premier weightlifting event in Australia, and I've kicked myself thinking: ‘Here I go again'," he said. "I'm really rapt, so hopefully my body holds up and I can produce a decent lift and pull a medal of some colour." After some time off Wegert decided to lift weights socially last year and qualified for the World Masters Games, to be held in Sydney this October. But even he was surprised to make Melbourne. "I thought I would start training last year, and in 18 months see how I go," he said. "But I've accelerated fairly quickly, and the next thing I know I'm in the team." To gain a medal this weekend Wegert believes he will need to lift 140kg in the snatch category and 180kg in the clean and jerk division. He said his younger competitors would be faster, but experience was on his side. "I did a 180kg clean and jerk last Friday ... and I've done 135kg snatches a couple of times ... (but) knowledge and tactics play a bigger part," he said. (Australian Weightlifting

International Coaching Course (ICC), Budapest, Hungary

HISTORYThe first International Coaching Course in Budapest was held in 1971. Since the establishment of the Course, over 1.500 participants from more than 85 countries and all continents of the world received their education and certificate at our University. As a result of the long time activity in the international coach education the Course management has developed cooperation with governmental and non-governmental institutions all over the world, which corresponded with theobjectives of the course. OBJECTIVESThe ICC is designed to train and educate coaches from around the World. The programme attempts to promote and develop excellence in coaching. The Course provides coaches with a systematic way to improve their knowledge and skills in the theoretical, technical and practical aspects of coaching. ORGANISATION STRUCTUREThe ICC is initiated, organised and supervised by Semmelweis University, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Strategic and International Directorate. It is an intensive, concentrated, and intermediate level course. The course is organised in half-year intervals starting every March and September. Usually 10-15 sports are offered, depending on the demand and actual applications. See the attached application form for actual courses. The sports are carefully selected, based on traditions, long-term success of the Hungarian National Teams and the availability of our well-known lecturers and coaches. The duration of the course is three months. COURSE CONTENTCourse content in detail has been carefully selected to meet the needs of coaches working with generally young, developing athletes as well as with advanced athletes of elite sport. To train a competent coach, completion of both theory and practical/technical components of the programme is essential. Progress in the training programme requires active coaching to implement the knowledge gained in the coaching course; therefore all participants are involved in practical coaching work in the leading Hungarian sport clubs. They are supervised by the senior lecturer and/or his/her assistants of the particular sport. GENERAL SUBJECTS - 120 hoursThe curriculum of the theoretical part (general subjects) deals with the art and science of coaching rather than the specifics of any particular sport. The content of the theory courses is basic to the broader education of the programme and includes the following subjects: training theory, sport physiology, sport psychology, exercise and conditioning, sport sociology, sport and research, coach in action, strength training and injuries, Olympic Movement, women and sport, sport management, sport and nutrition and other related subjects. Apart of these subjects, there are possibilities for consultations in each subject, and to learn basic Hungarian. SPORT SPECIALISATION - 180 hoursThe Sport Specialisation component has two parts: technical and practical. The technical part provides sport-specific information through courses, which include classroom instruction, sport-specific presentation, participatory activity and formal evaluation. The content includes coaching information pertaining to all events in a particular sport. These courses apply coaching principles to a particular sport. Skills, drills, training methods, strategy and tactics, detection and correction of errors as well as psychological preparation are among the topics covered in this block. The practical component involves actual coaching experience, practical lessons, training visits, competitions and matches and their evaluation. The participants will visit the best Hungarian sport clubs and training camps. The practical part of the programme involves applying theoretical and technical knowledge to actual coaching situations. When possible, there is an attempt to evaluate this coaching by on-the-scene observation. The practical and technical parts also contain homeassignments, independent observation of practices and competitions. LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTIONThe programme is taught exclusively through English. Participants are expected to speak English, not only during classes but also in their conversations with the teaching staff, the organisers and the other students. EXAMINATIONSThe exams may consist of written, oral and/or practical requirements. Examinations in the student's respective sport consist of sports theory and sports practice. Shailaja to be dropped from 2010 CWG elite list

Four top women lifters of India are dropped from the core group for the 2010 Commonwealth GamesPreparations after they failed to report for the national camp in time, Indian Weightlifting Federation said. Pujari, Renubala Chanu, S Yamini and Shristi Singh were among 60 elite lifters selected for 2010 CWG training which started in February but the quartet did not turn up for the camp at Patiala despite given an extended time to join. Pujari won three gold in 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games in 75 kg while Renu Bala won gold in the 2006 Melbourne Games in 58 kg. Yamini won a bronze in 58 kg in the National Championships in Pune early this year while Shristi Singh earned a silver in 69 kg in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune last year. Their hopes of taking part in 2010 CWG are as good as over with President Harbhajan saying that any lifter outside the elite list would not be considered unless he or she came up with some extraordinary performance in national championships later this year. Their participation in regional competitions is controlled by WADA/NADA rules. Their participation in CWG 2010 depends on their selection by the National Selection Committee and clearance by
