WADA 2010 Prohibited List Now Published
Montreal, September 30, 2009 - Following its approval by the World Anti-Doping Agency's Executive Committee on September 19, the 2010 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods is now available. This List will go into effect on January 1, 2010. The 2010 List reflects the latest scientific advances and offers a number of noteworthy changes compared to the 2009 List: SalbutamolThe status of salbutamol, a beta-2 agonist, will change. Therapeutic use of inhaled salbutamol will not be prohibited as of January 1, 2010. If the urinary concentration is above 1,000 nanograms per millilitre, there will be a presumption that the substance was not taken by inhalation and the athlete will have the burden to demonstrate through a controlled pharmacokinetic study that the level found in his urine was the result of therapeutic inhaled use. T/E Ratio Follow-UpNo further collections or analyses will be required in cases where the testosterone to epitestosterone (T/E) ratio is greater than 4 and an isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) test or any other reliable analytical method has not revealed evidence of exogenous administration of a prohibited substance. PseudoephedrinePseudoephedrine will be reintroduced to the List and will be prohibited above 150 micrograms per millilitre. British Olympic team sponsorship set to boost cash-strapped sports
The British Olympic Association will this morning reveal Visa as the major backer for ‘Team 2012' following months of wrangling with athletes' agents over image rights. UK Sport was forced to cut £50 million from their 2012 budget last year and it's hoped the new sponsorship will a small way towards plugging that gap, with industry experts valuing the deal between £6m and £10m. Water polo, shooting, handball, volleyball, weightlifting, fencing and table tennis all saw their funding slashed from between 50 and 75 per-cent. "Team 2012 will help ensure that as Olympians and Paralympians head toward London, they are properly resourced to do the job and make Britain proud," said Lord Coe, chairman of London 2012 organisers
Indo-Canadian couple raise money for Canadian team for Commonwealth games
One of British Columbia's big real estate brokers, Avtar Bains, organised a fund-raiser to the Canadian team to the next Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. He and his wife, Monika Deol, a former TV host, joined many top athletes at the event in Vancouver. At least $5 million is required for the team of about 380 Canadians. The husband-and-wife team hoped to raise at least $100,000 at the event. "The 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games is a tremendous opportunity to strengthen the Canada-India relationship through sport," said George Heller, President of the Commonwealth Games Foundation of Canada. "Avtar, Monika and their committee of volunteers have done a fantastic job with this event, and we are so thankful to the Vancouver business community for its support of the athletes who will represent Canada on the international stage in India in October 2010." Among the athletes who attended the event were Charmaine Crooks, Commonwealth Games gold medalist and five-time Olympian (athletics), Annamay Pierse, Olympic swimmer, world championship silver medalist and candidate for Canada's 2010 Commonwealth Games team, Jasvir Singh, Olympic weightlifter and candidate for Canada's 2010 Commonwealth Games
