2009 Goyang World Weightlifting Championships Organizing Commitee will take pre-application for AD card of Media to reduce time for issue the AD card for Media visitors and convenience for your news material work. ㅁ The deadline for making application : 25th Oct 2009 ㅁ Way of application : After fill out the Media Accreditation Form and send the E-mail attached photo ㅁ Way of distribution : AD card will be distributed in Registration Center during 2009 Goyang World Weightlitfting Championships ㅁ E-mail : [email protected] or [email protected] ㅁ Notice : Media Accreditation Form must be sent us by e-mail attached photo. GB Team for World Championships

The following lifters have been selected for the World Weightlifting Championships in Goyang City, Korea form the 17th-29th November. Name Wt Cat. Coach Natasha Perdue 69kg Tamas Feher Gurbinder Cheema 105kg Cheema Singh Both athletes were 1 kg off the selection total for their weight category however the selection committee felt that both athletes are making good progress. Gurbinder Cheema has made a good recovery from the injury that kept him out of the British Championships this year. Results of men’s 94kg category at Chinese National Games

Olympic champion Lu Yong plays one-man show to win gold (85 kg)

Olympic champion Lu Yong met no challenges to win the gold medal in the men's weightlifting 85kg category at the Chinese National Games. Lu, the Beijing Olympic champion, lowered the weight of first attempts in the snatch by eight kilos and jerk by 12 kilos as he was confident to snatch the gold. Lu lifted a total of 376 kg -- 173 in snatching and 203 in jerk -- which were 16 kilos more than the silver medalist Song Jiawen of Guangdong. "I love Jinan. I won my first gold medal in the National Championships in 2004 here, and today I won again. Jinan is my lucky place," Lu said. "The result is not good enough though. I wanted to secure the gold, so I gave up the heavier weight," he added. "Lu is quite clever. He saved his energy and won the gold," president of the Chinese Weightlifting Association, Ma Wenguang, said. The 23-year-old Lu made a successful debut in the Beijing Olympics last year, beating veteran Andrei Rybakou of Belarus by body weight advantage with 394kg, 18 kilos more than his result in Jinan. The 27-year-old runner-up, Song, expressed love to his wife in front of a camera. "I love you! I hope this silver medal may cheer you up," he said. Kong Xu from Beijing collected the bronze with 356kg.

New President of Malta Weightlifting Association

The local weightlifting community has a new President, Jesmond Caruana. During the Annual General Meeting, Caruana contested David Saliba for the top post and was elected by the present members. The official name was amended to read Malta Weightlifting Association, to be in conformity with the Sports Act 2002. Further elections were held. Mark Pirotta was elected as Treasurer and Noel Coleiro as committee member. Present during this AGM was Malta Olympic Committee General Secretary, Joe Cassar. Simon BrincatPRO MWA
