Record participants among women in Antalya

The 78th Men's and 21st Women's World Championships 2010, Antalya set a "World Record" even before getting started. Women weightlifters from 54 countries are participating in the competition that started today, altogether 218 women will perform on stage. This high number of participating countries has never been reached before at any other competition. The previous record was set during the World Championships in Thailand 2007 where women from 53 countries competed in the city of Chiang Mai. At the 2010 Antalya World Weightlifting Championships 563 athletes from 81 countries sent their Final Entry forms and appear on the start list. During the competition that takes place at the Expo Center, the 1,500th medal will be awarded to the lucky woman that will be able to reach that milestone (in the 69kg category).

The first step to London

Between the 13th and the 15th of September, in the days previous to the World Championships starting from the 17th until the 26th of September, all IWF Committees - Technical, Medical, Coaching & Research - terminated their sessions . The Executive Board meeting and the IWF Congress also held its meeting in Antalya. During the Congress that took place at the Topkapi Palace on the 16th of September Dr. Tamas Ajan, President of the IWF and Dr. Hasan Akkus, Vice President of the IWF and President of the Turkish Weightlifting Federation both said an inaugural speech in order to officially open the session. The 2010 Antalya World Weightlifting Championships are a main Qualification Event for the 2012 London Olympic Games, as their slogan say "The First Step for London"! 2010 Antalya WWC Entry List now published!

Based on the Entry Forms received by the IWF Secretariat, the ENTRY LIST of the 2010 Antalya World Championships as of 6th September 2010 is now published on this website. The Entry List by Category contains 601 competitors from 77 countries. Please note that this is ONLY FOR INFORMATION! This List will not be updated before the World Championships. All eventual corrections or modifications as permitted by the Rules (i.e. Entry Total, Category) must be submitted, effected and signed at the VERIFICATION OF FINAL ENTRIES meeting, which will be held in Antalya, at the Topkapi Palace Hotel, at 18:00h on 15th September 2010. Educational Seminar in Antalya

We would like to draw your attention to the next edition of the very successful IWF Educational Seminars which will be held during the World Championships in Antalya. It is organized in the framework of the IWF Education Program, and will take place on Saturday the 18th and Friday the 24th of September 2010.   Renowned and experienced lecturers will lecture about Weightlifting-related topics:   Mr. Kyle Pierce, Professor in the Kinesiology and Health Science Department at the Louisiana State University in Shreveport will start on Ethical issues and the Olympic Movement. Mr. Sam Coffa, Vice President of the IWF, Chairman of the Technical Committee will discuss Technical issues in Weightlifting. Mr. Attila Ádámfi, Competition Director of the IWF will talk about another aspect of Technical issues. To conclude, Dr. Ágnes Tiszeker, Director of the Hungarian Anti-Doping Organization and medical doctor will present her studies and views on medical and anti-doping issues.   We would like to ask every official and team leader to make sure that their athletes will honor the seminar by their presence! IWF Development Program for Coaches in South Africa

A course for coaches started yesterday, the 29th of August 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa in the framework of the IWF Development Program. The course will last 8 days from the 29th of August until the 5th of September 2010. We expect the course to be a great success and we are proud to support the organizers in their work! Several topics are about to be discussed relating to Technical Rules, Nutrition and Anti-Doping issues. Weightlifting related lectures will be held by experienced and recognized experts such as Mr. Aveenash Pandoo, the National Coach of SAWF and recently appointed Director of Development of Africa by the WFA. 8 countries are about to attend the IWF Development Program for Coaches: Seychelles, South Africa, Kenya, Cameroon, Mauritius, Swaziland, Uganda and Tanzania. An established online connection through Skype enabled a video conference between IWF Offices and Cape Town, where the course is currently underway. Participants were excited and surprised to talk to the President of IWF Dr. Tamás Aján, who personally wanted to greet attendants, members and contributors. Much evolutionary changes have been made, and this course is a major step forward in development of Weightlifting sport in South Africa.   Dr. Tamás Aján encourages National Federations, and coaches for further progress, and noticed with great contentment the high number of
