Hans Zdrazila celebrates his 70th birthday

Olympic Champion, World Champion and World Records holder Hans Zdra�ila was a significant lifter in category 75 kg and 82,5 kg for Banik Ostrava and RH Praha. He was a member of the national team from 1960-1972. 10 times champion of Czechoslovakia (1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1970, and 1971). Interesting enough he could never achieve top position in Europe, in 1964 and 1965 he took second places. In 1964 he became Olympic and world champion.His Tokyo Olympic result was 445 kg (130, 137,5, 177,5) in category 75 kg. Three times broke world record in category until 75 kg - clean and jerk 171,5 kg, 172,5 kg (1963), 177,5 kg (1964) and eight times broke Olympic Record. During his sport career he achieved above 100 national records. Hungarian Weightlifter Geza Toth passed away at the age of 79

The Hungarian Weightlifting Federation has been informed with deep sorrow about the death of Mr. Géza Tóth, one of the most celebrated weightlifters of Hungary. He collected 22 medals at the greatest championships among them 4 gold at World Championships and 5 gold at European Championships. His greatest Olympic result was a silver medal behind Pljukfelder at Tokyo Olympics in 1964. He participated three Olympic Games (1960, 1964, 1968). Géza Tóth set up three world records and 157 national records. He worked as head coach at club Haladás of Szombathely, and coached lifters in Austria and South America as well. He was a teacher at Semmelweis University Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Budapest, Hungary. He was awarded the Merit of Honor by International Weightlifting Federation in 2002. The International Weightlifting Federation expresses its deepest condolences to Mr. Géza Tóth's relatives.

Sports Law Conference in Budapest

From 29-30 September, 2011, the international sports law conference Olympics - Competition - Sport - Law was held in Budapest, Hungary. The Olympics-Competition-Sports-Law International Conference was divided into two separate parts, dealing with the competition law aspects of sport on the first day, while covering general sports law issues on the second day. The selection of speakers guaranteed that a wide range of problems were touched upon with the possibility to show different perspectives. Just 300 days before the official opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games it was ideal to discuss the various issues of sport and law in the ambit of an international conference at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest. Today's sport has also serious legal implications which are equally important and sometimes even overshadow the actual athletic performances.
