World Weightlifting’s 2012 Best Lifters received their Trophies

The Kazakh athlete, Zulfiya Chinshanlo and the Iranian athlete Behdad Salimikordasiabi were voted to be the Best Lifters of 2012 by the readership of World Weightlifting and the weightlifting public all over the world. Zulfiya received the “Jenő Boskovics Lifter of the Year Challenge Trophy” for the Best Lifter of 2012 at the IWF Congress held in Uzbekistan Tashkent in the presence of 64 countries. In the absence of Salimi, the President of the Iranian Weightlifting Federation, Hossein Rezazadeh took over the plaque for this great recognition. The 2013 IWF Youth Weightlifting Championships kicked off

The 2013 IWF Youth Weightlifting Championships kicked off today in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The President of the Olympic Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mirabror Usmanov, the Deputy Prime-Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Batir ZAKIROV and the Minister of Culture and sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Minkhajidin Mirzajanovich KHODJIMATOV honored the Opening Ceremony with their presence. Record number of athletes and record number of countries 257 Men from 46 countries and 189 Women from 38 countries (altogether 446 athletes from 52 countries) are competing in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This competition is the first competition in central Asia and all athletes are willing to secure the participation of their country at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China. Only 1 Youth World Record holder (Snatch, Clean & Jerk and in the Total) is present at the competition, Nadezhda Nogay (KAZ) ¬who will compete in the Women’s +69kg bodyweight category. On the first competition day, athletes competed for medals in 2 bodyweight categories: Men’s 50kg and Women’s 44kg. Men’s 50kg Asian weightlifters took possession of the podium in this bodyweight category. China on the lead was followed by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Uzbekistan. First medal of the competition for the host country, the venue was crowded to watch YULDASHEV Mashkhurbek (UZB) winning 3 Bronze with a Total of 196kg. The Chinese lifter finished 4th in the Clean & Jerk, but had a 6kg advantage in the Snatch which was enough for him to win the Gold Medal in the Snatch and in the Total. With 197kg, PAK Jong Ju (PRK) ended up second. Women’s 44kg After a Silver Medal in the Men’s 50kg, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea won the Gold in the Women’s 44kg. RI Su Yon won 3 Gold Medals leaving the second place to KHING Khing (MYA). The Bronze Medal in the Total went to the Egyptian athlete SALEH MAHMOUD Heba. IWF Congress in Tashkent

Mr. Batir Zakirov, Uzbekistan Weightlifting Federation President and Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the IWF Congress delegates. After the presentation of appreciations and President Ajan’s address, the delegates received the Quadrennial Report of the IWF President Dr. Tamas Ajan, General Secretary, Ma Wenguang and the 3 Committee Chairmen, Sam Coffa, Technical Committee Chairman, Dr. Hasan Akkus, Medical Committee Chairman and Dragomir Cioroslan, Coaching and Research Committee Chairman. The Congress unanimously approved the audited Financial Statement for the year 2012 and the Quadrennial Financial Report 2009-2012 and received information on the 2013 Budget. The Executive Board approved and submitted the constitutional Membership list to the IWF Congress. Detailed presentation was given on the Member Federations’ rights and obligations according to the Constitution. In accordance with the IWF Constitution, 147 Full Member Federations were confirmed to be able to participate in the upcoming Electoral Congress with voting right. Among other important topics, the summary of the Anti-Doping controls and the preparation of future IWF Events were presented to the Congress. Delegates were informed about the program and conditions of the IWF Electoral Congress to be held on 20-21 May in Moscow, Russia. Executive Board Meeting in Tashkent

The last meeting of the IWF Executive Board was held on 6 April 2013 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Board received last the Financial Report for the year 2012 and approved the budget for the year 2013. The auditor report was delivered to the Executive Board by KPMG, the Independent Swiss Company responsible for the IWF Audit. The constitutional requirements of the Membership were fulfilled and the Executive Board has listed the IWF Member Federations in accordance with the Membership categories of the Constitution. Important decisions were made with regard to the IWF Electoral Congress to be held in Moscow, Russia. According to the President’s proposal approved unanimously by the Executive Board, one delegate per country will be free of charge at the Electoral Congress as the IWF will reimburse the flight
