World Masters Championships big in Copenhagen

The 2014 IWF Masters World Championships held last week in Copenhagen, Denmark welcomed the large turnout of 539 competitors of which 117 were women. Both the Danish hosts and the supervising IWF Masters Committee, as well as the participants took the Championships very seriously and it was manifest in the high level of technical arrangements and the performances on the stage. Aged 35 to 86 (!), the lifters gave their very best to their beloved sport proving their slogan right: "Weightlifting from the cradle to the grave!" The IWF representatives, Anikó Németh-Móra, Director and Dr. Magdolna Trombitás, Legal Counsel had very constructive meetings with the IWF Masters Committee, in particular with Jan Hinrichsen, Chairman, Lawrie Thownsend, Vice Chairman, Bill Barton, General Secretary and Denise Offermann, Secretary, and witnessed as at the Congress representatives of 44 countries expressed their will to maintain the IWF recognition and collaborate

4th Russian Federation President’s Cup concluded in Noyabrsk, Russia

The 4th Russian Federation President’s Cup – IWF Grand Prix was held successfully with the participation of nearly 50 athletes from 14 countries in Noyabrsk, a city in North Siberia, Russia on 6-7 September, 2014. The prestigous Olympic qualification event was held in the brand new Sport Hall „Zenit” in 75, +75 kg bodyweight categories for women and 94, 105, +105 kg for men. This event was held for the fourth time after Belgorod, Saint-Petersburg and Moscow. At the opening ceremony Mr. Alexandr Mazharov, Deputy Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District and Mrs. Hanna Belotskaya, Mayor of Noyabrsk greeted the audience. Mrs. Eva Balogh, IWF representative handed over a diploma to Mr. Mazharov as a token of appreciation for the support of the event. After a spectacular dance show introducing the traditions of the region, the athletes were in the centre of attention. In 94 kg bodyweight category Egor KLIMONOV, RUS won the prize of 5000 USD. Among women in 75 kg XIE Hongli, CHN was the best. In 105 kg Arturs PLESNIEKS, LAT got a gold medal. The best female athlete in +75 kg became  HARIDY Shaimaa and the strongest man in +105 kg at the competition was Marcin DOLEGA. The trophy of the best team was awarded to Russia. The competition was held at high professional level. The hosts showed the participants one of the largest oil and gas industrial projects of Russia. New Guidelines and Documents

The IWF has launched new guidelines in order to assist the athletes and the officials to follow the regulation of the IWF. All of them are available under the Guidelines /Manuals. Nationality Change Procedure In case an Athlete wants to change its nationality and represent a new country at international competitions they are required to follow the IWF procedure. This guideline provides a clear picture to each situation and gives practical advices to the Athletes. Therapeutic Use Exemption Procedure Athletes may find themselves in a situation that requires the use of particular medications or treatments, and they can also get ill. In these situations they could be required to use substances or methods for the treatment which are on the Prohibited List. In order to avoid a doping violation in these cases the Athletes need to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption.
