Technical Visit for the 2014 IWF World Championships

IWF President Dr. Tamas Ajan, Legal Counsel Dr. Magdolna Trombitas and Communication & Marketing Manager Lilla Rozgonyi concluded the third Technical Visit in Almaty, Kazakhstan in preparation for the 2014 IWF World Championships. On the occasion of the visit, the topics related to the following fields were discussed and finalized: Competition venue display and design, press operations, presentation of the IWF sports Documentary, Anti-Doping educational stand etc. The delegation held meetings with Omar Mustafin, CEO of the Organizing Committee, Dimash Sultanov, Sport Director and representatives of the specific key areas. European Union Weightlifting Confederation founded

Reviving traditions from the 1970s and '80s when the then member countries of the European Union used to hold their regular weightlifting championships, Member Federations currently belonging to EU member countries decided to establish their regional federation. At a Congress held in Split, Croatia, the European Union Weightlifting Confederation was founded with 16 countries of the 27 EU members being represented. The EUWC Constitution was adopted and officers were elected. On the following days the European Union Cup competition was held in Split, an event the new organisation wants to stage annually, to provide competititon opportunities for all age groups of the region.

Final dates for 2015 IWF YWC

17th Asian Games concluded with no surprises

The weightlifting competitions in Incheon, Korea concluded with the +105kg competition where Behdad Salimikordasiabi, IRI easily won with new Asian Games Records in Snatch, Clean & Jerk and Total as well. The 213 athletes (77 women / 137 men) form 31 countries made all together 78 (!) new World, Junior World, Asian and Asian Games Records, 34 new records (including 3 World Records) made by men and 44 (including 6 World Records) by women. What an impressive performance by the Asian athletes! 5 NOCs (CHN, PRK, TPE, KAZ, IRI) won Gold medals and 11 NOCs won medals (INA, KOR, VIE, THA, UZB, IRQ). CHN collected the most medals, 14 in total, 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze. The Women's Team Classification was won by PRK, followed by CHN and THA. The fourth Tissot World Record Award!

Le Locle, Switzerland/Incheon, Korea, 25 September 2014.Taiwanese weightlifter Tzu Chi Lin broke the world record with a combined lift of 261kg in the women’s 63kg weightlifting category on September 23. Lin had won gold at the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships at the tender age of 16 in 2004, but injuries she sustained acted as impediments to her career as a promising weightlifter. Undaunted, however, she eventually shined at the 17th Asian Games Incheon by takingthe previous gold. To mark the occasion, Tissot, the official timekeeper of this edition of the Asian Games, presented Lin with Tissot World Record Award in front of Tissot store at Main Press Center on September 25. It was the fourth ceremony sponsored by Tissot for world record breakers following other three weightlifters, Om Yun-chul, Kim Unguk and Hsu Shu-ching . In a brief interview with Tissot after the occasion, Lin said, “Breaking the world record was not my priority. 2014 Almaty WWC Organizing Committee visited the Asian Games

The Organizing Committee of the 2014 IWF World Championships visited the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea. The delegation, headed by Mr. Zhanat Tussupbekov, President of the OC and the Kazakh Weightlifting Federation visited the Moonlight Garden Venue, home of the weightlifting competitions. During the venue inspection tour, technical details were coordinated with the IWF representatives with regard to the World Championships venue.
