The IWF Executive Board and Congress concluded in Almaty

After a 2 days Executive Board Meeting and a Congress, the IWF bodies made several amendments and decisions in the following topics and fields: The new Anti-Doping Policy of the IWF was approved with the effect of 1st January 2015. It was necessary to amend in order to bring it in line with the new WADA Code. The 2015 Budget was approved by the IWF Executive Board and presented to the Congress. The Board reconfirmed the IWF’s recognition to the Masters. A special masters Technical Rules addendum and specific masters Anti-Doping regulations will be elaborated jointly with the IWF and Masters Commission. The Executive Board also approved the amendments regarding the CF contribution for 2015 and reconfirmed the timeline for the application process of the 2015 Development Program while Pyrros Dimas, 3 times Olympic Champion was welcomed as the Ambassador of the IWF Education Program. Following various requests from the Member Federations which combine different sports, the Executive Board reconfirmed the implementation of the IWF Constitution, i.e. it insists that weightlifting should be governed individually. It was accepted that the IWF should be included to the Combat Games under the umbrella of SportAccord. The IWF Congress delegates approved the new IWF logo and modified the Constitution accordingly. NEW IWF LOGO APPROVED BY THE IWF CONGRESS

In its will to develop its corporate identity and create a valuable asset as well as a strong brand, the International Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) Congress today approved the new logo of the Federation. The concept emerged from international trends, the importance of being recognized to enhance visibility towards fans and new generations. Willing to become a passion brand to which fans, athletes, stakeholders can commit to, the logo contributes in establishing a powerful emotive connection between the IWF and its public. The modern face still recognizes the heritage and history of the Federation established in 1905. The new identity functions well in respect to both visibility and usage in the modern media particularly printed digital and broadcast. Our Vision of the Future is a fresh and trendy approach keeping the shapes proper to weightlifting. The IWF will open the use of its logo and allow its Member Federations to be part of the Weightlifting Family by personalizing the design. Committee Meetings ended in Almaty

Subjects in common interest were coordinated at the Joint Meeting of the three Committees. Update information was given since these World Championships are the first where Minimum Entry Totals were introduced. Technical Committee In order to amend the TCRR, complementary barbell specifications were discussed. Reiko Chinen (JPN), Member of the Technical Committee has been appointed as Coordinator for the TCRR Review Commission. ITO appointment procedure and ITO pathway had a great attention and was widely discussed during the meeting and a proposal will be drafted. The second edition of the Technical Officials Guidebook has been drafted and presented to the Committee for further comments. The decision to elaborate a proposal including Video Replay was accepted and the Committee will further study the issue. IWF TIS “Electronic Change of Call” was successfully run for the first time. Coaching and Research Committee The CRC introduced the Coaching Manual Level 2, which will be presented also at the Congress, and its official publication is planned before the end of the year. The principles of the Coaching categorization system has been re-confirmed and to be elaborated in details in line with the IWF TO system. After the workshop for the future trainers of the IWF Coaching Courses, the IWF will organize courses based on the Club Coach Manual (level 3) where IWF Coaching License can be achieved. The already published Manuals will be available soon also through mobile stores (by chapter). Medical Committee The Medical Committee discussed issues related to weightlifting specific injuries and its possible impacts on the competition flow. The elaboration of the medical manual was presented and the Injury Report as well as the No needle Policy to be implemented in 2015 were approved. THE 2014 OTIP Program – Discovering talent!

The Oceania Talent Identification Program (OTIP), implemented by the OWF three years ago to identify talented students throughout the schools of the Oceania region, and in particular the Pacific Island nations was a great success in 2014. Financial support is provided by the IWF in the framework of the Development Program’s contribution for Continental Federations. This year 4,338 students from 166 schools and 14 countries took part in the program; almost 1,700 more than last year’s results. (2312 boys and 2021 girls). The program has grown each year and it was rewarding to see so many of these students who have participated in the OTIP program competing in the Oceania Championships, Olympic Youth Qualification, Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the recent Olympic Youth Games in Nanjing. This is truly amazing in that such a short time the national federations have been able to tap in on the work that they have done at the school level producing the next generation of champion weightlifters. Special thanks must go to those individual weightlifting federations who took part in the program and in particular to those individual coaches/lifters/volunteers, who took the time to go to the schools and successfully run the program. Among the talents participating in the OTIP, we can name KATOATAU David who celebrated Kiribati’s first Commonwealth Games medal at Glasgow 2014. Besides him individual weightlifting federations, individual coaches, lifters and volunteers took part in the program. We appreciate the efforts of Paul Coffa, OWF General Secretary who built up the project and promotes weightlifting in the Oceania Region. Check out the full report
