Final Entries for Houston are up

5 London Olympic Champions and 10 Almaty World Champions announced to compete The Final Entry List for the 2015 IWF World Championships Houston, USA has been published on our website. As Qualification Event for the 2016 Olympic Games, this competition is the most important milestone on the road leading to Rio. The George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston will stage from 20-28 November the 82nd Men’s and 25th Women’s World Championships. The Verification of the Final Entries will set the final numbers on 18 November at 18:00, but according to the Final Entries, we have now 745 athletes from 105 countries who will compete in Houston. Paris 2011 topped the number of participating countries with 87, and Athens 1999 topped the participating athletes with 626 lifters. Considering the impressive figures, the Record participation is still expected. The list contains all the Athletes who were entered as possible participants for the Event, however the IWF retains the right to decide on the athletes’ and MFs' eligibility in line with the respective IWF Rules and

IWF visit in Rome

Upon the invitation of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) President, Giovanni Malago and Italian Weightlifting Federation (FIPE) President, Dr. Antonio Urso, IWF President Dr. Tamas Ajan accompanied by Attila Adamfi, Director General and Eva Moska, Development and Education Director paid a visit to Rome. Discussions were held on candidature of Rome for the 2024 Olympic Games, especially about the concept of the weightlifting competitions at the Games. Continental statistics

With less than 1 year to go to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, results reached at weightlifting calendar events and especially Continental competitions can bring us some interesting statistics. The 5 Continental Championships / Games held in 2015 were as follows: European Championships Tbilisi, GEO Oceanian Championships Port Moresby, PNG Pan-American Games Toronto, CAN Asian Championships Phuket, THA African Games Brazzaville, CGO The first statistical chart compiles the points given to the best 6 Total places from each continent by bodyweight categories. Making a theoretical attribution of points, the second chart is a potential ranking allowing the countries to have an insight in what their current results worth on a continental level. The third chart presents the potential ranking by countries following the same structure.
