Pan-America entered the medal tally with Gold

W69kg Hitting high numbers, three athletes came out in the Snatch after everyone else. They did the exact same in the Clean and Jerk. The competition for the medals in the Snatch started with the 86kg lift of KUZGANBAYEVA Karina (KAZ) going for three good attempts and ending third with 94kg. Pan-American athletes RIVAS MOSQUERA Valeria (COL) and PALACIOS DAJOMES Angie Paola (ECU) reached higher numbers. RIVAS went up to 95kg while PALACIOS took 100kg. They were the major contenders for the Gold Medal and kept their position all along the Clean and Jerk and Total in the exact same order. PALACIOS DAJOMES Angie Paola (ECU) was the only one with 6 good lifts and showed an impressive technique. RIVAS MOSQUERA Valeria (COL) ended second with a Total of 209kg while KUZGANBAYEVA Karina (KAZ) finished third with 207kg. M85kg The Snatch competition was an easy win for the Polish lifter ADAMUS Bartolomiej Stefan (POL). Ranking 6th at the 2016 IWF Youth World Championships with a Total of 290kg in the 77kg bodyweight category, he improved his Snatch by 13kg reaching 143kg here in Bangkok. Silver Medallist in the Snatch, BAKICI Tolga (TUR) was weaker in the Clean and Jerk and only got to a Total of 301kg and couldn’t get close to the podium. The Clean and Jerk competition determined the final ranking and the leading position of ADAMUS became compromised after lifts from ANTROPOV, AL AJMI and PAPI. His 6 good lifts - last Clean and Jerk being 175kg - brought him a Silver just like his Total of 318kg.  ANTROPOV Artyom (KAZ) only 7th at the last year’s Youth World Championships with 309kg improved his Total by 14kg and reached the highest step of the podium winning the Gold twice - in the Clean and Jerk with 185kg and Total with 323kg. Third place went to PAPI Mahdi (IRI). Missing a Snatch (134kg) and ranking 7th, he came back for 3 good lifts in the Clean and Jerk ranking 4th. With his Total of 304kg he won the Bronze in the Total. The Clean and Jerk result of the Omani lifter AL AJMI Murshid Mohamed Murshid (OMA) deserves a special mention. Ranking 13th in the Snatch, he got a Bronze Medal in the Clean and Jerk with 173kg. W75kg Securing a 1kg advantage in the Snatch, PASTUKHOVA Olga (KAZ) came out for her first lift in the Clean and Jerk at 110kg securing herself a Total.  Winning three Gold Medals, she came out for her second and third attempts without any pressure for medals. Lifting 115kg with ease, she did the same with 120kg. Her Total of 211kg couldn’t be equaled.     Tension was on between the Uzbek and Mexican lifters fighting for the Silver. AKHMADOVA Gulnoza (UZB) was 13 when participating in her first Youth World Championships in 2013 where she ended 25th. Her major contender was GUTIERREZ LOPEZ Angela Yazmin (MEX) having only a 1kg advantage after the Snatch. AKHMADOVA making 108kg a good lift ended second with a Total of 197kg leaving third place to GUTIERREZ

China strikes Gold and Bronze

W63kg FANG Lin (CHN) won all three Gold Medals available in the Women's 63kg bodyweight category. Alongside her Kazakh opponent, she was the most consistent, with 6 good lifts. Her Chinese compatriot JIANG Yunliu (CHN) missed her Snatch twice, but managed to control the 86kg on her last attempt. Ranking only 7th, she needed to start the Clean and Jerk quite high. With 113kg she secured her Silver Medal and went for 116 to hope for the Silver in the Total. Missing her last attempt, she only finished third behind the Kazakh PAVLOVA Darya (KAZ). With 6 good lifts PAVLOVA Darya (KAZ) made a Total of 199kg - 11kg behind the Gold Medal winner FANG. She got two Silver and a Bronze. JARQUIN GONZALEZ Jessica (MEX) won a Gold Medal in the Snatch but her 6th place in the Clean and Jerk wasn't enough to put her on the

One more Youth World Record for USA – MAURUS Harrison James!

M77kg MAURUS Harrison James (USA) started the Snatch quite high and made a first good lift at 140kg, but missed on 144kg twice. He came out last in the Clean and Jerk when all the other athletes already finished their competition. His starting weight in the Clean and Jerk was 175kg - good lift - and with a 9kg jump he went up to 184kg for the second one. He already won the Gold Medal and the Youth World Champion title with his first one but he made the second attempt a good lift too! He came out for a third attempt at 192kg and broke the Youth World Record of LOPEZ LOPEZ Yeison (COL)!    Silver Medallist at the Pan-American Youth and Junior events as well as at the 2016 IWF Youth World Championships, he had now the Gold for his Total of 332kg topped by a World Record. With three good lifts in the Snatch, URVACHEV Aleksandr (RUS) went for 137kg, 140kg, 142kg. Also three Good lifts in the Clean and Jerk, he ended 20kg behind MAURUS.  The Kazakh lifter BEKTAY Assylzhan (KAZ) - Bronze in the Snatch only missed his last attempt in the Clean and Jerk. CUMMINGS JR Clarence (USA) broke his own Youth World Record!

W58kg EMDU Ailada (THA) won the Snatch with her second lift but still came out for 88kg to gain some advantage. Weaker in the Clean and Jerk, she only made it to 95kg and couldn’t secure a place on the podium. 4th place in the Snatch, the Belarus lifter VALODZKA Siuzanna (BLR) also missed the podium by a tiny bit as she needed only 1kg ending 4th. After winning three Bronze Medals at the 2017 IWF Youth World Championships, Turkey crowned the first Youth World Champion here in Bangkok. LEVENT Nuray (TUR) missed 86 but still secured herself the second place in the Snatch. With three good lifts in the Clean and Jerk, she grabbed two Gold Medals. Clean and Jerk competition was tense until the end and the last couple of lifts determined the winner between TUR, UKR, UZB.    With a Total of 191kg, LEVENT Nuray (TUR) defeated HANHUR Mariia (UKR) winning the Silver with 186kg and FAYZULLAEVA Kumushkhon (UZB) winning the Bronze with 185kg. Men 69kg WEI Nianrong (CHN), SU Lian (CHN) and Youth and Junior World Champion in 2016 as well as Youth World Record holder CUMMINGS JR Clarence (USA) missed their third and last attempts in the Snatch leaving the victory to RI Kwang Song (PRK) making it 140kg. CUMMINGS started the Clean and Jerk with a 3kg handicap while for SU it was 4kg. Missing two of his lifts, the Chinese lifter couldn’t make it to the podium. WEI mastered all his three Clean and Jerk attempts going 163kg, 168kg and 172kg ending Silver and Bronze in the Total. Impressive strength and technique was displayed by CUMMINGS! IWF Education Seminar in Bangkok

The IWF held its Educational Seminar in Bangkok, Thailand! Grassroots and education are a major point of focus for the IWF and athletes participating at the 2017 IWF Youth World Championships were enthusiastic about getting extra knowledge in important subjects such as Anti-Doping or the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. IWF President, Dr. Tamas Ajan also came to greet the attendees and underlined the importance of this qualification competition. ANAHEIM READY TO TELL WEIGHTLIFTING’S STORY

Logo for the sport’s premiere event in 2017 released ANAHEIM, Calif.
