The ASOIF Medical & Science Consultative Group (AMSCG)

Dominik Dörr, Member of the IWF Medical Committee had a presentation about the IWF’s proactive approach on transgender inclusion. He summarized the result of the survey among the IF’s and said, the members of the group all came to the conclusion (because of the big variety of “solutions” by the IF’s), that there should be only one “rule” (set up by the IOC), which should be implemented by all IF’s.

The AMSCG was created in 2005. The primary role of the AMSCG is to look at practical and operational issues of common interest for all the IFs in the areas of medical and anti-doping activity, including all athletes’ health related matters. The AMSCG can also be called upon to give its opinion about the work of WADA as well as content of the WADA Board Meetings. The group usually meets twice a year.

The AMSCG is chaired by Dr. Margo Mountjoy (CAN). The Canadian sports medicine physician is a member of the FINA Bureau, of the Games Working Group of the IOC’s Medical Commission as well as of WADA’s TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption) Committee.

Members of the group are:

Hosny Ahmed, Medical Committee Chairman of the International Handball Federation (IHF)

Dominik Dörr, Member of Medical Committee of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF)

Pierre-Yves Garnier, Medical Senior Manager of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)

Alain Lacoste, Chair Medical Commission of the International Rowing Federation (FISA)

Michel Leglise, Vice-President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG)
