Dr. Tamas Ajan re-elected as IWF President

Dr. Tamas Ajan (HUN) has been re-elected as President of the International Weightlifting Federation today at the 2017 IWF Electoral Congress held in Bangkok, Thailand. He withstood the challenge from European President Mr. Antonio Urso (ITA). Dr. Ajan will add 4 more years to his 12 years already served as IWF President. New IWF Anti-Doping Policy effective with 15 June

In its constant efforts in the fight against doping, the IWF Executive Board recently approved modifications to the IWF Anti-Doping Policy (ADP). The amendments were elaborated with the involvement of numerous experts and in consultation with the World Anti-Doping Agency. (WADA) Even before these newly introduced modifications the IWF ADP had already been fully compliant with the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code. The aim of the amendments is to mirror the most state-of-the-art principles of anti-doping related legislation, enabling the IWF to stand up against all those violating its ADP, as it highlights and emphasizes that all stakeholders have their own responsibility in the fight against doping. With the newly introduced amendments the Executive Board will have the possibility to impose sanctions on National Federations whose athletes repeatedly fail to comply with IWF's whereabouts requirements and whose competitors do not return medals forfeited as a result of disqualification. By widening the circle of sanctions which can be imposed by the Executive Board, the new IWF ADP will enable an even stronger protection of clean Lifters. The new version of the IWF ADP is available
