Champions at the iLiftCLEAN Outreach Booth

Numerous Champions visited the IWF Anti-Doping Outreach organised in the framework of the WADA Legacy Outreach Program at the 2018 World Championships in Ashgabat. The Outreach Program was assisted by the National Anti-Doping Agency of Turkmenistan (NADAT). The iLiftCLEAN Booth was built up in the competition venue close to the Athletes’ entrance until the last competition day. Athletes could come and join, test their knowledge and show their dedication to doping-free sport by lifting the #iLiftCLEAN barbell or signing the Clean Sport Flag made by the Japan Anti-Doping Agency. Fourth Gold for the Chinese Women Team

We saw two lifters, AO Hui’s (CHN) and  KIM Un Ju’s (PRK) battle for the first place in the women’s 87kg bodyweight category. AO, Junior and Asian Champion in 2015 won the Snatch with 117kg, a 6kg advantage over 2014 Asian Champion KIM. In the Clean and Jerk, KIM (152kg) could overpower AO with a small difference but in the Total, the Chinese lifter won with 268kg while the PRK athlete couldn't do more than 263kg. Dominican SANTANA PEGUERO Crismery Dominga won the Bronze Medal in the Total with 254kg and the Silver Medal in the Snatch with 116kg. The fourth medallist in the category was VALDES PARIS Maria Fernanda (CHI) who stood on the third place of the podium for her Clean and Jerk performance of 140kg. MARTIROSYAN became World Champion

MARTIROSYAN Simon was Olympic second and European Champion already, and now he is World Champion. In the Snatch, the 21 years old Armenian lifter had to settle for the Silver Medal with 195kg, because YANG Zhe (CHN) lifted 1kg more than him making it to 196kg. Afterward though, MARTIROSYAN dominated the field. In the Clean and Jerk, he went for 230kg and 240kg, both World Records and also set the Total World Record at 425kg and even 435kg. In the Clean and Jerk and in the Total, he won the Gold Medals. „I knew I will have a lot of strong competitors. I just did the same thing I always do, I gave my best.” – said MARTIROSYAN with a smile on his face. Turkmenistan President meets IWF President

President of Turkmenistan, H.E. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov recieved Dr Tamas Ajan, IWF President and IOC Honorary Member in his office on the occasion of the 2018 IWF World Championships in Ashgabat. Double Iranian victory in the men’s 102kg

Two Iranian stood on the top of the podium in the men’s 102kg bodyweight category. 2017 World Champion, HASHEMI Ali won the Gold in the Total with 396kg, after being second in the Snatch (179kg) and third in the Clean and Jerk (217kg). His compatriot BEIRALVAND Reza was only fourth in the Snatch (175kg) but won the Clean and Jerk (218kg) claiming the Bronze medal in the Total with 393kg. Ukranian CHUMAK Dmytro had the same result and got the Silver Medal in Total, the Bronze (176kg) in the Snatch and Silver in the Clean and Jerk (217). Uzbek DJURAEV Akbar, second at the Junior World Championships this year, brought some excitement to the competition. VALENTIN Lidia won the women’s 81kg

Spanish VALENTIN PEREZ Lidia won the Snatch with a big advantage, ranked third in the Clean and Jerk and won the Gold Medal in the Total with 249kg. The 33-year-old legend, who has an Olympic Medal of every colour, claimed the World Champion title again after 2017 with 258kg in the 75kg bodyweight category. This time she finished on top of a new bodyweight category. Being third in the Clean and Jerk as she missed her second attempt at 136kg making it a good lift only at her last attempt. Belarus NAUMAVA Darya, third in the Snatch went for 130kg-135kg and even lifted 137kg. She got the Gold Medal in the Clean and Jerk and Silver in the Total with a result of 245kg - 4kg behind VALENTIN. "I competed in a higher bodyweight category than usual because I had an injury in my shoulder and I didn't want to be exhausted losing weight a few days before the competition. My coach said it could even be for my benefit, and he was right!" - Lidia explained why she decided not to compete in the 76kg.
