Deadline for Technical Officials’ nomination JWC 2007 expiring today

Please note that today - 9th March 2007 - is the deadline for the nomination of Technical Officials to the 2007 Junior World Championships to be held in Prague, Czech Republic. In the selection, preference will be given to referees who already have the new Referee Uniform.National Federations should also consider and keep the deadlines for the Preliminary and the Final Entries to the Junior Worlds 2007, which should be sent to the Czech Federation and the IWF. IWF Symposium in Rome was a tremendous success

Two days - 2nd and 3rd March 2007 - crammed with lectures and presentations embracing a very wide range of topics, from coaching to IOC policies, constituted the intellectual summit of weightlifting. Organised at the highest level with perfect hospitality by the Italian Weightlifting Federation (FIPCF), the IWF Symposium took place in Ostia, suburb of Rome. In what was the 7th in the line of this kind of major IWF Symposia since 1981, subjects of both specific and general interest and an impressive lineup of lecturers attracted record participation. In the end, 152 participants were registered representing 58 countries.The programme included most informative and inspiring presentations by guest speakers from the IOC, WADA and the international media and by members of the IWF Family. The Symposium was commonly judged as being extremely useful and well organised. The speeches and presentations will be published by the IWF so that they can reach the broad audience of the IWF membership. Update information about the IWF Symposium1-4th March 2007RomeWe are glad to announce that so far we have received the application of 184 people from 67 countries to the event.The IWF will cover expenses of 3 nights of one person per National Federation for the period of 1st to 4th of March 2007.Any additional participant or extra night shall be covered by their respective National Federation at the cost of 50euros per night in a Double and 78euros per night in Single room per person (Bed and Breakfast). Imre Földi elected “Athlete of the Nation” in Hungary

It is an elite group of 12 of Hungary's most prominent sportsmen and sportswomen who may bear the proud title of "Athlete of the Nation". Replacing Ferenc Puskás, who died recently, Imre FÖLDI was elected as the 12th member. Since Hungary boasts dozens of multiple Olympic, world and European champions and athletes of great merit, it is an extreme honour for anyone to be elevated to this rank in the country.Imre Földi was the first in weightlifting to have participated in 5 Olympic Games from 1960 to 1972, reaching the peak, the Olympic gold medal in 1972 Munich but returning with a medal or a rank in the top six from each Games. He was and still is a role model for Hungarian youth with his persistence, hard work and great sportsmanship. He coached his daughter Csilla Földi, 16-fold European champion weightlifter, member of Hungary's first women's weightlifting team.
