New dates for 2007 University World Cup!!!

IOC Vice President met Dr. Aján in Frankfurt

On 26 March 2007, IOC Vice President received IOC Member and IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The German National Olympic Committee and Sport Federation were recently united into a new organisation called "Deutscher Olympischer SportBund" (DOSB) and Dr. Thomas Bach became its President. IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján visited the DOSB Headquarters in Frankfurt and led very fruitful talks with Dr. Thomas Bach in the presence of Mr. Claus Umbach, President of the German Weightlifting Federation. Since Dr. Aján is also Vice President of GAISF and President of the Hungarian Olympic Academy, the discussions covered a wide range of topics beyond the framework of weightlifting, and possibilities of a more intensive co-operation in all these fields were explored. Upon his return to Hungary, Dr. Aján confirmed that his visit and the meetings with Dr. Bach had been very successful and bearing great perspectives for mutual projects in the

Olympic barbells chosen for Beijing 2008

Exercising its right as per the IWF By-Laws, the IWF Executive Board has designated the barbells that will be used in the weightlifting competitions of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.In the selection process, the following factors were carefully and extensively taken into consideration:-          The Guidelines and Regulations of the IOC concerning the selection of sport equipment for the Olympic Games-          the position and the interests of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Organising Committee-          the possibilities and the very interests of the IWF and its membersThus the following two manufacturers have been chosen for the Games:ZKC - Zhangkong Barbell China - for the men's events DHS - Double Happiness China - for the women's eventsBoth barbells are IWF-approved and have been used and acknowledged in World and Continental

Help the IWF update its Rules for 2008!

The IWF Committees and Executive Board will deal with the proposals for updating the IWF Constitution, Technical Rules and By-Laws, as the first instant, at their next meetings in Prague, this June. To this end, National Federations and international officials can still send their suggestions to the IWF Secretariat. The deadline is 6 April

2007 Qualification World Championships Program finalized

The Timetable of the 2007 Qualification World Championships to be held in Chiangmai, Thailand has been finalized with the host Thai Weightlifting Association.The competitions will run for 10 days between 17 and 26 September 2007 and the IWF Annual Congress will take place on 16 September 2007.See
