Applications to host future World Championships expected

The IWF is herewith launching the bidding process for the following future World Championships: = 2009 Junior World Championships for Men and Women; = 2009 World Championships for Men and Women; The candidatures can be forwarded by National Federations to the IWF - with the transfer of the relevant non-refundable deposit - before 28 February 2008. Relevant documents on the conditions of the applications will soon be published on this website. The allocation of the World Championships will be decided by the next IWF Executive Board

IWF President assumes Honorary position in NOC

On 7th May this year, Dr. Tamás Aján was reelected for the fifth Olympic cycle as Secretary General of the Hungarian National Olympic Committee. In December 2005, Dr. Aján resigned from this job and assumed the position of Honorary Secretary General of the Hungarian NOC, while he continues to be the President of the Hungarian Olympic Academy. In the future it will allow Dr. Aján to focus more on his numerous important international duties, i.a. President of the International Weightlifting Federation, Member of the International Olympic Committee and Member of two IOC Commissions, Vice President of GAISF and Member of the WADA Foundation

Weightlifting Competition Manager for Beijing 2008 Confirmed

We are happy and proud to note that Ms WANG Yan has been confirmed to be the Weightlifting Competition Manager for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Holding Masters Degree in Physical Education and Sport Management, Ms Wang has been with the Chinese Weightlifting Association since 1998 and gained ample experience in international management through various major events, including Olympic Games, as Team Manager or Competition Director.
