IWF Anti-Doping Policy working group

Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President following his statement on the IWF Congress at the 2011 IWF World Championships Paris, France, called an expert meeting in Budapest in order to launch the review process of the IWF Anti-Doping Policy. Experts such as the IOC Medical Director, WADA Legal Director and WADA European Regional Office and International Federations Relations Director took part in the meeting along with other specialists from international organizations and from the IWF. The participants agreed that the involvement of RADOs (Regional Anti-Doping Organizations) and NADOs (National Anti-Doping Organizations) are indispensible to aim the further improvement of the IWF Anti-Doping Program. The fruitful collaboration of the working group will allow the amendment of the IWF Policy to run simultaneously with the modification of the IWF Constitution. IOC and WADA experts are strongly convinced that the IWF’s strong approach and dedication in the fight against doping is an exceptional example to follow among IFs and demonstrates how to be efficient, compliant and proactive in this challenging

Winners of the 2011 Lifter of the Year voting: Two Russians!

At World Weightlifting’s traditional election of the Best Lifter of the Year, the majority of voters – 525! – agreed that the “Jeno Boskovics Challenge Trophy” for Women in 2011 should go to Svetlana Tsarukaeva from Russia. Tsarukaeva collected altogether 4,087 points – winning with a colossal advantage. Also Russian Khadzimurat Akkaev turned out to be the Best Male Lifter of 2011. He was voted into first position by 391 of his 643 voters, into second place by 143 and into third place by 109. He raised altogether 3,779 points. The election on the IWF website broke all previous records: 805 valid ballots came from 63 countries. Thank you,

WADA Media Symposium

WADA held a Media Symposium in Lausanne, Switzerland on 7 February where the IWF was represented by Lilla Rozgonyi, IWF Communication Assistant. The Hon. John Fahey, WADA President held a lecture entitled “WADA in 2012”. David Howman, WADA Director General explained “The challenges facing anti-doping in 2012 and how WADA will respond to those challenges”. IWF Technical Visit in Almaty

IWF Competition Director, Attila Adamfi recently paid a visit to the headquarters of the Kazakh Weightlifting Federation in order to discuss several details in regard to the 2014 IWF World Championships to be organized in Astana. The Federation was represented by Mrs. Gapura Turlykhanova, Vice President, Mr. Alexei Ni, Executive Board Member and Head Coach and Mr. Tapsir Mendikhan, General Secretary. Attila Adamfi visited Almaty as Member of the National Bandy Team of Hungary participating on the XXXII.
