AWF Education Seminar in Doha

Under the framework of the IWF Development Program, the Asian Weightlifting Federation held an education seminar for the participants of the Asian Arab Youth-Junior Championships in Doha. More than 60 representatives from member federations in the lectures given by Dr. Patrick Schamasch, IWF Anti-Doping Commission Chairman and Reiko Kato Chinen, AWF Technical Committee Chairperson. Dr. Schamasch gave comprehensive information on the fight against doping, on targeted and intelligence testing as well as on major changes in the IWF Anti-Doping Policy – effective since 1st January 2015. Besides the danger of taking food supplements and possibilities of food contamination, Dr. Schamasch explained the criteria of selection for Anti-Doping Agencies as well as key factors of the IWF strategy with special focus on education and prevention. Reiko Kato Chinen gave updated information about the changes and rule modifications in the IWF Technical and Competition Rules as well as about specifications regarding the uniform, bandages etc. Technical Officials present had the chance to clarify crucial questions related to applicable

The Asian Weightlifting Federation held its Electoral Congress Today in Doha Qatar. He gave prestige for the event and reinforced the unity of Asia.” The newly elected AWF Executive Board had its first meeting on the same day and will start its work aiming to further develop weightlifting on the Asian continent. The AWF Executive Board appointed Mrs. Reiko Kato Chinen (JPN) as Chairman of the Technical Committee, Makhmudov Shakhrillo (UZB) as Chairman Coaching and Research Committee and Ms. Seza Tchobanian (LIB) as Chairman of the Medical Committee. First meeting of the year for the AWF Executive Board

The AWF Executive Board started its meeting in Doha with the opening speech of Mohamed Yousef Al-Mana, AWF President. The Organizing Committee of the 2014 Asian Arab Youth-Junior Weightlifting Championships made a report regarding the competition held in conjunction with the Executive Board Meeting while the 4 years report of the AWF was also presented to the Members. The following proposals were accepted by the Board, and unanimously approved by the AWF Congress: The headquarters office of the Asian Weightlifting Federation shall be in Doha, QAT and all communication shall be through the headquarters office. The AWF shall separate all financial aspects from the executive functions of the AWF General Secretary with regards to AWF procedures or financial matters. The AWF shall appoint a neutral auditing company with an accountant to handle all financial aspects. The expenses of the AWF headquarters and staff will be covered by the Qatar weightlifting Federation. In order to harmonize the AWF Constitution with the IWF Constitution and eliminate possible discrepancies, the Executive Board discussed the different points for the Modification of the Constitution. All were approved by the AWF Congress. Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President said: “In the past 17 years, the country completely changed and its approach to sport became global. Qatar organizes World cups, championships, and is investing in the development of sport. IWF NEW Anti-Doping Policy is effective as of the 1st January 2015!

The IWF wishes to remind the weightlifting family that the New Anti-Doping Policy become effective from the 1st January 2015. Along with the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code it will help the IWF Anti-Doping Commission to conduct an even smarter testing program and to promote and coordinate the fight against doping in all its form. From 2014 to 2015 with the Asian Arab Junior-Youth Championships

The last event of the year 2014 is at the same time the first event of 2015. Ending and starting the year lifting weights is surely fun for all participants of the ongoing Asian Arab Junior-Youth Weightlifting Championships. Altogether 180 athletes from 23 countries came to compete at the Championships held in Doha, Qatar. The very successful competition is hosted by the Qatar Weightlifting Federation in conjunction with the Elections of the Asian Weightlifting Federation to be held on 6 January 2015. The competition is staged in an outstanding facility being the Marriott Hotel.
