USA Weightlifting meets IWF

Ursula Garza Papandrea, USA WL President and Phil Andrews, CEO held discussions in their recently elected positions with Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President, Attila Adamfi, Director General and Lilla Rozgonyi, Communication and Marketing Director. Ursula Garza Papandrea has been an athlete and coach in Olympic weightlifting for over 25 years and is committed to the sport of weightlifting. She is the first and only woman to ever attain USA Weightlifting’s highest coaching level, Senior International Coach Level 5. Ursula earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science, and a Master’s Degree in Political Science both from Texas State University. She is and has been a Technical Director on USA Weightlifting’s Board of Directors since 2009. Ursula Garza Papandrea and Phil Andrews presented the framework of the new ideology and working structure of USA WL as well as their strong commitment to projects that would develop the sport on the American soil. Anti-Doping issues to be discussed by the IWF Executive Board

Recognizing the serious consequences with regard to the reanalysis of the London 2012 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games samples, the IWF Executive Board dedicates a full day to discuss these and other Anti-Doping related matters at its meeting in Tbilisi, GEO on 22-23 June. Following the decisions from 2015 that already showed the strictest approach towards zero tolerance, the IWF EB aims to continue its commitment and work for a clean sport. The Pan-American Championships concluded the qualification for Rio 2016

The annual meeting of the Pan-American lifters was held in one of the nicest city of Colombia, Cartagena. 218 athletes from 23 countries fought for the remaining (7 Men and 4 Women) quota places available for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The Pan-American Weightlifting Federation held its Executive Board meeting and Congress prior to the competitions. In the framework of the IWF Development Program, an Anti-Doping Seminar was held in Cartagena. The lectures were given by Mr. Marcelo Munoz, IWF expert and participants received latest information about anti-doping related issues. Eric Rosario passed away

Eric Rosario passed away on Saturday, 11th June, after a very brave fight against cancer. His knowledge on the sport of weightlifting was second to none. His communication abilities with the young and more seniors were exceptional. He was involved with the sport of weightlifting firstly as a competitor in India, then in Australia, as a coach at the Hawthorn Weightlifting Club in Melbourne for many years and also the Melbourne University Weightlifting Club. Eric was the first manager/coach to take the Australian junior team to participate at the first World Junior Championships held in Marseille – France in 1975. He went on to coach Australian teams many times. Eric was also a very distinguished International Category One Technical Official. At one stage he was also the Secretary General of the Victorian Weightlifting Association. Eric excelled in the field of lecturing. The International Weightlifting Federation on a number of occasions requested Eric to run seminars in coaching and refereeing in some countries of the world. The sport of weightlifting has truly lost not only a dear friend, but a very intelligent and humble man. Our thoughts are with his dear wife Prisca, his daughters Louise and Viola, his son Alois and their families. Source: Paul
