ZHAO won, 3 Youth World records by AISAH in W49kg

The second day of the IWF Junior World Championships ended with the women's 49kg bodyweight category session, where Chinese lifter, ZHAO Jinhong earned all three gold medals. In the Snatch, she produced the same result as silver medallist AISHA Windy Cantika (INA), 81kg, but as hers was the first successful lift, she got the gold. For the one year younger AISHA, this result meant a new Youth World Record, just as her Clean and Jerk (98kg) and Total (179kg). Italian IMPERIO Giulia won the Snatch bronze medal with a 75kg lift. ERGASHEV dominated the men’s 67kg category

In the men's 67kg bodyweight category, ERGASHEV Adkhamjon (UZB), 61kg Junior World Champion last year won all 3 gold medals in his new bodyweight category. He dominated the field both in the Snatch (141kg) and the Clean and Jerk (173kg), rounding up his final result to 314kg. He did not top his own World Record which he set at 316kg at the Asian Championships in April this year. "I am very excited to compete in this new bodyweight category and I always try to improve myself. It feels wonderful to be Junior World Champion for the second time in a row and hold World Records both in my old and new category!" 2018 Youth Olympic Champion, Turkish OZBEK Muhammed Furkan followed him on the ranking table, with a large margin in the Snatch. He started at 135kg but only succeeded in lifting it for the third attempt, he picked up the bronze. With a slightly closer result to ERGASHEV's in the Clean and Jerk, 172kg (307kg Total), he won the overall silver medal. Russian GARAEV Zulfat clinched the Total bronze medal (300kg) and a silver in the Snatch (137kg), while WEI Yunbar (CHN) overtook him in the Clean and Jerk by two kilograms (163 and 165kg

The gold goes to Turkey in the men’s 61kg category

The Junior World Championship continued today with the men's 61kg A session here in Suva, Fiji. Youth Olympic Games Bronze medallist TOPTAS Caner from Turkey easily won the Snatch competition with 125kg, and won the overall gold (273kg), regardless of being only fourth in the Clean and Jerk. On his first international competition, Korean BAE Moonsu picked up the overall silver medal (270kg) and also helped himself to a Clean and Jerk gold medal with a 155kg result. Third on the Total board and another Turkish lifter, DONEN Dogan with 269kg rewrote all Youth World Standards in this bodyweight category (Snatch: 121kg, Clean and Jerk: 148kg). FAATHIR Muhammad also set a new Youth World Record in the Clean and Jerk at 149kg, which was a high enough result to reach the second place in this

Opening of the IWF Junior World Championships

On the eve of the IWF Junior World Championships, the IWF Marketing Commission welcomed the IWF leadership and the Organizing Committee at a traditional Gala Dinner. The efforts of the Fiji hosts to organize a championship of such measure were widely acclaimed and appreciated by the IWF and its Marketing Commission and sponsors. Next day at the Opening Ceremony, Atma Maharaj, President of Weightlifting Fiji greeted all participants, officials and spectators at the event and expressed his gratitude to Dr Tamas Ajan, IWF President, the Government of Fiji, the members of the Organizing Committee and all stakeholders who helped to bring the Championships together.   Dr Tamas Ajan, IWF President pointed out that he was happy to see the IWFs confidence in Fiji to organize this high priority event in a professional manner now fully confirmed. This tiny island in the Pacific is defying any scepticism. Fiji and the Local Organising Committee under the leadership of Dr Robin Mitchell - President of ANOC and ONOC, IOC Member - is delivering an enjoyable and spectacular event up to the highest standards of the IWF. "In addition to support from the Government, we cannot thank enough to Weightlifting Fiji and its President, Mr Atma Maharaj for his devoted service by living up to the challenge of a world event and thus confirming Fiji as a strong weightlifting nation even in a global context." MASSIDDA (ITA) is Youth and Junior World Champion!

The 2019 Junior World Championships kicked off today in Suva, Fiji with the women's 45kg bodyweight category, a short session where all competitors received medals - as only 3 lifters participated. Vietnamese KHONG My Phuong, silver medallist at this years IWF World Cup grasped the overall (158kg), and the Snatch (74kg) gold medals, while her VIE teammate, second finisher PHAM Dinh Thi, who was Asian Youth Champion last year, managed to take away the Clean and Jerk first place from her, lifting 1kg more than KHONG (85kg). The Turkish lifter, DOGAN Ayse received 3 bronze medals (68, 83, 151). The day continued with the men's 55kg session, where MASSIDDA Sergio (ITA) excelled again, after winning this year's Youth World Championships, he took the Junior World title too. With a 102kg Snatch result, he ended up second in this lift. Clean and Jerk clearly being his strong suit, he came out at 125kg than continued the successful lifts at 128kg and 131kg. His Total result of 233kg secured him a 9kg advantage over Japanese KUBO Kaito (224kg). Another Japanese lifter, YAMAGUCHI Yuto finished in the third place, only one kilogram behind KUBO. His strong performance in the Snatch (103kg) was worthy of a gold medal, but being able to produce only one good lift in the Clean and Jerk at 120kg, he could not cut ahead of KUBO in Total.
