New IWF Anti-Doping Policy

During its meeting in Almaty, Kazakhstan the IWF Executive Board has adopted the NEW ANTI-DOPING RULES which are based on the revised 2015 World Anti-Doping Code to be effective as of the 1st January 2015. The regulation is fully compliant with the New Code and will increase the fight against doping on an an even smarter and stronger level. You may find the new Anti-Doping Policy here. Besides the new regulation the IWF Executive Board has accepted a new guideline regarding the PUBLIC DISCLOSURE of the positive cases as follows. Following the Athlete’s notification the IWF will put the basic information regarding the positive findings on its website under the anti-doping news. Following to disclosure no further comment will be given until the case is closed. Furthermore in line with the requirements of the New Code a new procedure will be established regarding the REGISTRATION OF THE ENTOURAGE. IWF Anti-Doping Seminar in Almaty

Giving special attention to Anti-Doping Education, the IWF held a Seminar in Almaty, KAZ with over 70 participants to give wider information and guidance in the field of Anti-Doping. The following lecturers underlined the dangers of doping, the fight against it and the legal background given by Rules and Regulations: Dr. Patrick Schamasch, IWF Anti-Doping Commission Chairman, Dr. Maira Bakasheva, KAZ NADO Director, Dr. Magdolna Trombitas, IWF Legal Counsel. Topics such as the IWF Anti-Doping Strategy, new Rules and Regulations coming into effect in 2015, as well as the new WADA Code were discussed. The Experts spoke about important legal aspects of doping controls and new ways to fight the use of prohibited substances. “It is not only important to identify the use of prohibited substances, but to prevent it” said IWF Anti-Doping Commission Chairman Dr. Patrick Shamash. From January 1, 2015 the new Anti-Doping Code will come into force, providing more severe sanctions. In some cases, the suspension period for an athlete will be extended from two to four years. The entourage, doctors and coaches will be controlled and monitored closely. The Seminar was attended by members of Kazakhstan sports federations, teachers and students from the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism, weightlifting coaches and athletes as well as Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President and Yelsiyar Kanagatov, Chairman of the Committee of Sports and Physical Culture. Amended 2014 Prohibited List in force September 1

Prohibited List 2014 WADA has completed its amendment to Section S2.1 of the 2014 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods. Hypoxia-Inducible Factor (HIF) activators Xenon and Argon have been added to the 2014 Prohibited List, following the required three-month notice period and UNESCO’s communication to all States Parties. The recommendation to revise the List was made and approved by WADA’s Executive Committee during its May meeting. The change to the List reads as follows: S2. PEPTIDE HORMONES, GROWTH FACTORS AND RELATED SUBSTANCES The following substances, and other substances with similar chemical structure or similar biological effect(s), are prohibited: 1. Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents [e.g. erythropoietin (EPO), darbepoetin (dEPO), hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) stabilizers and activators (e.g. xenon, argon), methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta (CERA), peginesatide (Hematide)].
