WADA Testing in weightlifting

In accordance with the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Code the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is authorized to collect samples from athletes in the sport of weightlifting as a result of co-operation with the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). All doping controls will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the IWF Anti-Doping Policy and the International Standard for Testing and Investigations. The IWF hereby would like to call the Federations and the Athletes attention to fully comply with the relevant regulations and assist and cooperate the Doping Control officers during the sample

Meeting of the IWF Anti-Doping Commission

The official meeting of the IWF Anti-Doping Commission was held on 15 January 2015 in Lausanne in presence of Dr. Patrick Schamasch- Chairman, Dr. Michael Petrou - member of the ADC, Dr. Magdolna Trombitas – Legal counsel and Mrs Melody Exhenry – Administrative assistant. The members defined the strategy and set up the goals for 2015 and selected the IRTP Athletes. The Test Distribution Plan have been profoundly and carefully analysed and the ADC is ready to continue its increased cooperation with the other stakeholders of the Anti-Doping Community. The ADC registered perceptible progress in 2014 in the relentless war on doping and the results seem to verify that the weightlifting sport has been on the right path.

IWF NEW Anti-Doping Policy is effective as of the 1st January 2015!

The IWF wishes to remind the weightlifting family that the New Anti-Doping Policy become effective from the 1st January 2015. Along with the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code it will help the IWF Anti-Doping Commission to conduct an even smarter testing program and to promote and coordinate the fight against doping in all its form. The IWF reports that sample A of Ms. TSEVELEVA Darya from BLR has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for stanozolol. As a consequence, the athlete is provisionally suspended in view of a potential anti-doping rule violation. In any case where it is determined – after a B sample analysis, a hearing or an appeal – that the athlete did not commit an anti-doping rule violation, the relevant decision will also be published.
