First medals and Prize Money given out in Fuzhou

Medals are only awarded in the Total and we have the winners of the first bodyweight category. The 2013 Junior World Champion GUAN Chunying (CHN) won easily the W 48kg lifting 190kg. With a Total being 22kg lower – at 168kg, the two times European Champion (2014 and 2013) PAGLIARO Genny Caterina (ITA) came up second while third place went to Japan. ITOKAZU Kanako was handed over 3000 USD for her third place while the Gold and Silver medallists received 8000 USD and 5000 USD respectively. In the 53kg bodyweight category, LI Yajun (CHN) World Champion in 2013 stood up on the first place of the podium with 221kg. Ending the Snatch at 101kg, she was only 2kg away from a World Record. The Silver went to her compatriot HOU Zhihui (CHN), Silver Medallist at the 2015 IWF Junior World Championships in Wroclaw, POL. SUTANAN Kittima (THA), who lifter 200kg for her bronze medal at the 2013 IWF World Championships only got to 189kg this time earning the Bronze Medal in the Total. OZKAN KONAK Sibel (TUR) European Champion in 2015 and two times Silver Medallist in 2010 and 2014 at the World Championships finished on 4th place. In the Men’s 56kg, SCARANTINO Mirco (ITA) the European Junior Champion in 2013 and 2014 / European Championships Silver in 2014 and Bronze in 2015, took risks in the Clean and Jerk. With a missed first attempt, he came for a second at 139kg and managed to control the weight. To win the Gold, he had to go higher, but 144kg seemed too much. He got the second place after the Indonesian lifter PURKON Muhamad who had no result so far registered at international level. With his Total of 241kg, BARNES Darren Lamar (USA) was not far from his best - 245kg - reached at the 2014 Pan American Junior where he finished 2nd. He now stood on the third place and got a Bronze for USA. Men’s 62kg The final fight for the Gold took place between World Champion in 2009 and Bronze Medallist in 2014 DING Jianjun (CHN) and IRAWAN Eko Yuli (INA) Bronze Medallist at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. It was an easy one for DING. The last two Clean and Jerk attempts of the Indonesian lifter were no lifts, while DING got it easy with 166kg. His Total of 309kg brought him the victory, while IRAWAN ended second with 304kg. Best in the Snatch, the 2012 IWF Junior World Championships Silver HUANG Minhao (CHN) was far behind the leading two – 152kg – but got the Bronze with 299kg. START BOOK published for the 2015 IWF Grand Prix

The Start Book of the IWF Grand Prix Fuzhou, CHN is now published on the IWF website. The competition will start with 63 athletes from 12 countries participating in the competition covering 4 continents with 26 Women and 37 Men. World and Olympic Champions will compete at this Olympic Qualification Event. IWF Anti-Doping Seminar in Fuzhou

Prior to the 2015 IWF Grand Prix Fuzhou, CHN, the Organizing Committee together with the IWF organized an Anti-Doping Seminar for the participants of the event. In presence of representatives from all countries competing, Dr. Patrick Schamasch, Anti-Doping Commission Chairman gave a full overview about the responsibilities of the different organizations involved in the fight against doping. The lecture included comprehensive information about the IWF’s fight against doping, athlete’s entourage, causes and consequences of using prohibited substances as well as the importance of protecting the clean sport. With about 35 team leader, coach, athlete participating, the spotlight was given to prevention and to the importance of education. The topic of athlete’s biological passport was also explained. A question and answer session concluded the lecture, and Dr. Schamash was happy to give broader views about questions of common interest like roles and responsibilities as well as

2015 IWF Grand Prix Fuzhou about to kick off

The Organizing Committee proceeds to the finalization of the last details prior to start the 2015 IWF Grand Prix – second edition since the first in 2011. The Invitational event is held in Fuzhou from and is an Individual Qualification Event for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The competition is staged at the Mawei Gymnasium Fuzhou. Athletes will compete in the following bodyweight categories: Men: 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg Women: 48kg, 53kg, 58g, 63kg, 69kg This is the first time that such an impressive amount is given out as Prize Money during and IWF Grand Prix Event: in total 160.000 USD plus World Record bonus will be awarded to the winners. Celebrating 120 years of weightlifting in Ukraine

On September 11th, the Khmelnytskyy new sports club "Epitsenr" welcomed the 120th anniversary of weightlifting in Ukraine. At the gala, held under the patronage of the President of Weightlifting Federation of Ukraine Oleksandr Gerega and honorary president of the sports club "Epicenter" Galina Gerega, major sport personalities gathered together. The International Weightlifting Federation was represented by the President Dr. Tamas Ajan, while personalities as Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Ihor Zhdanov, President of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee and IOC Executive Board Member Sergey Bubka were also present. Also event was attended by athletes, coaches, politicians and Olympic Champions forging the past and present of weightlifting in Ukraine. The best of the best were awarded in five categories: "Outstanding coaches and athletes of today", "The future of weightlifting, coaches and athletes", "Famous veterans, coaches, organizers, judges", "Famous athletes of the past" and "For the promotion of weightlifting Ukraine". Honored guests congratulated all members of the Ukrainian weightlifting family on this great occasion for the tremendous work they are doing for the promotion of the sport. All the guests expressed their gratitude to President of the Ukrainian Weightlifting Federation Alexander Gerega and honorary president of the sports club "Epicenter" Galina Gerega, for promoting the construction of new modern sports facilities and for promoting weightlifting in Ukraine.
