Exciting competitions for the African quota places in Cameroon

The African Championships, Qualification Event for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games concluded last week in the capital of Cameroon, Yaoundé. Around 100 lifters from 13 countries competed for the 5 Men and 4 Women quota places available. Here is an update on the countries who secured 1 quota place for Rio at the African Championships: Men ALG, TUN, CMR, MAR, GHA Women NGR, TUN, CMR, ALG The good conditions and the great atmosphere created by the Organizing Committee helped the participants to perform on the highest level. Pre-Games operational meetings for IFs

The IOC organized in Lausanne a series of meeting with all International Federations in order to coordinate common operational issues ahead of Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Another succesful Anti-Doping Seminar on the eve of the African Championships

Dr. Zakia Bartagi, IWF Anti-Doping Commission Member and Mr. Robert Ndjana, head of the National Anti-Doping Organization of Cameroon held a successful Anti-Doping Seminar in Yaoundé, Cameroon on 8th May 2016. The Seminar was created within the framework of the IWF Development Program and was organized in cooperation with the Weightlifting Federation of Africa. Dr. Bartagi and Mr. Ndjana spoke in front of more than 80 participants - among them Athletes, Coaches and Representatives of Weightlifting Federations of the African Continent. The presentations tackled the changes and challenges brought forward with the introduction of the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code and aimed to raise awareness of the Anti-Doping Rules that are most used in practice based on the experiences of the IWF. At the end of the Seminar the participants could put their newly gained knowledge to a test by filling the IWF Anti-Doping Quiz in English and French. Visit at ZKC factory

Pedro Meloni, Rio 2016 Weightlifting Sport Manager and Attila Adamfi, IWF Director General paid a visit to the ZKC factory to check the sport equipment production for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
