Day 1 – 2021 IWF World Championships and Commonwealth Championships

The 2021 IWF World Championships in conjunction with the Commonwealth Championships kicked off with the Men 55kg category on 7th December 2021 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

 

Men 55kg Group B

 

The day started with the M 55kg Group B where 8 athletes competed. In Snatch Daniel LUNGU (MDA) lifted the highest with 109 kg while in Clean & Jerk Miguel Angel SUAREZ MESA lifted 138 kg on his 2nd attempt achieving the best C&J and Total in Group B with 242 kg.

 

Men 55kg Group A

 

At 19:00 Tashkent time, the action continued with the M 55kg Group A. In Snatch the 2019 Asian Champion, Mansour Abdulrahim M AL SALEEM (KSA) won Gold with his 2nd attempt of 118kg, the Silver went to Arli CHONTEY (KAZ) the 2020 Asian Champion with the same weight, while Muammer SAHIN (TUR) won the Bronze with 116kg.

 

In Clean&Jerk, the Snatch Gold medalist, Mansour bombed out, so the field was open for the Clean&Jerk and Total medals. In C&J the two juniors of the Group won the first 2 medals. Gold was won by Angel Hriskov RUSEV (BUL) the current Junior World Record holder who tried to level his junior world record of 147kg but failed at the end, but his second attempt of 144kg earned him first place in C&J. Silver went to Mohamad Aniq BIN KASDAN (MAS) with 142kg which also earned him the first place in the Commonwealth Championships and in addition he directly qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The Bronze went to the Snatch silver medalist Arli CHONTEY (KAZ) with 142 kg. He also lifted the same weight but later than the Malaysian.

 

In Total, the Gold went to Arli CHONTEY (KAZ) with 260 kg, Silver was won by Thada SOMBOONUAN (THA) with 256kg and Angel Hriskov RUSEV (BUL) won the Bronze with 254kg.
