British Weight Lifting Chairman Peter Rowley has been awarded as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to sports administration in the Queen’s New Year 2017 Honours list.

Since joining British Weight Lifting in May 2013, Peter has made a significant contribution to the sport in his role as chairman, whilst still maintaining several important roles within the wider sports industry.

Peter said of the award: “I’m astonished to receive this honour. It is entirely due to the wonderful and inspirational people that I’ve been privileged to meet and work with as a volunteer in sport, which has the power to change people’s lives and communities”.

Ashley Metcalfe, British Weight Lifting CEO, said: “On behalf of everyone at British Weight Lifting, I would like to say huge congratulations to Peter on his award.

“Peter’s passion and dedication for weightlifting and the positive role that sport plays within the community are unquestionable and he has given up a lot of time over many years for the benefit of others.
