CWF confident Delhi 2010 Games will be successful despite alarming news

The Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation, in its latest newsletter signed by Secretary General Paul Coffa, expresses confidence in the success of the 2010 Commonwealth Games despite some alarming news recently coming from Delhi, India. As it is known, reports went around the world about the falling of the false roof of the new weightlifting hall and unsatisfactory conditions in the athletes' village. However, teams from the Commonwealth countries are now arriving in Delhi and everything seems to be under control and progressing. Read the CWF newsletter about the forecasts in weightlifting.

Kazakh-Russian Podium

On the 21st of September, in women's 75kg no one managed to be just as good as PODOBEDOVA Svetlana (KAZ) who couldn't be dethroned. World Champion in 2009, she now won the 3 gold medals after performing serial good lifts. During a stressful tactical fight the Russian lifter ZABOLOTNAYA Svetlana broke PODOBEDOVA's World Records in both Snatch and Clean & Jerk taking leading position, but with a high technical superiority and grim determination the Kazakh athlete took the leading position back by not only breaking these previous records but also by setting a new one in Total with 295kg. ZABOLOTNAYA Svetlana won two silvers in Snatch and in Total, while her compatriot EVSTYUKHINA Nadezda got two bronze and supplanted her from the second place in Clean &

The 1500th WC Medal goes to SHIMKOVA Svetlana

For women competing in the 69kg category winning gold medal was not the only objective during the 6th competition day at the World Championships in Antalya. The winner of gold medal in Clean & Jerk also became the holder of the 1500th World Championship medal. The winner of this historical Gold is the Russian lifter SHIMKOVA Svetlana who performed first place in both Clean & Jerk and in Total. She took over her special prize from the World Weightlifting Magazine's Editor in Chief Kornel Jancso and Aniko Nemeth-Mora Senior

Competition at its height

During the women's 63kg category in Group A the Turkish lifter SIMSEK Sibel got an injury at the medial side of her right elbow while performing her second Snatch. Even though she found enough strength to keep her second place and win a silver medal in that lift and took the second place in Total. Last year's World Champion MANEZA Maiya (KAZ) finished first in Total and in Clean & Jerk where she managed to break the previous World Record setting the new one at 143kg. Columbia, Korea and People's Republic of Korea were also within the medal winning countries besides the Chinese lifter OUYANG Xiaofang who won gold medal in Snatch. Men's 69kg category LIAO Hui (CHN), Olympic Champion of 2008 and World Champion of 2009 waited for everyone to come out before performing his first Clean & Jerk. He started higher than his rivals, at 184kg. After his first good lift he broke the previous World Record in the second attempt. By the end of the competition, he also broke BOEVSKI Galabin's Total becoming the new World Record holder with 358kg and winning his second gold medal in this bodyweight category. In Snatch both the Chinese lifter and the Turkish lifter BINAY Mete tried to break the 165kg record, but they both failed in their efforts. However, the performance of BINAY Mete allowed him to win the gold as was lighter than LIAO Hui. This year's European Champion the Romanian MICULESCU Ninel won a third place in Snatch, and was awarded the silver medal for his accomplishment in Total. The Russian lifter KAZARYAN Armen stepped up to podium to take over the bronze.
