Imagen video management platform selected by International Weightlifting Federation

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has chosen Imagen’s video management platform to host its in-season and archive content so that it can be more easily accessed by a range of users throughout the sporting calendar. The self-serve platform will improve the commercial exploitation of its video library and provide regular updates to fans. Founded in 1905, and one of the oldest international sport federations, the new fully branded IWF Media Portal will enable broadcasters, newsrooms and media partners to access the latest content during competitions plus additional footage such as features, interviews, competition highlights and creative content. The IWF’s new video portal will also empower employees to manage media distribution in-house, rather than use third-party services. The platform includes high-speed file transfer so HD video can be supplied to clients faster than ever before. Employees will also enjoy convenient access to the federations entire range of media (including images, audio and documents) from a single, easy to search resource. Tools to store, locate, shortlist, clip, collect and deliver content are all included in the Imagen platform. Video clips can also be published to the IWFs social media channels to connect with their worldwide fanbase on a regular basis. Cayman Islands National Championships

The Cayman Islands returned to competitive Weightlifting for the first time in many years over the weekend. Held at the Cayman International School, the Cayman Islands National Championships was the first event held in competitive Weightlifting in living memory. Supported by USA Weightlifting and under the guidance of well-known US coaches, Michael Cohen & Sheryl Cohen, the one-day event went off successfully with some impressive totals contested. The event had equal representation for both male & female competitors. The nation already has both Youth and Senior athletes ready to compete, and they will be seeking to enter their first International competitions in the near

USA Weightlifting Hosts Largest Weightlifting Competition in History

Starting today, USA Weightlifting will host the largest Weightlifting competition in history, with 1651 registered athletes at the 2018 Nike American Open Series 3 in Las Vegas, USA. The number of registrations surpasses the previous record held by USA Weightlifting’s 2018 American Open Series 1, where 968 athletes registered. Combined with registered coaches, more than 1,900 individuals have registered for the event. The American Open Series 3 is a 4-day event, from Thursday, September 13 to Sunday, September 16 held at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. “We’re ready to tackle the challenge of hosting the world’s largest weightlifting competition,” said Pedro Meloni, USA Weightlifting’s Events Director. “Las Vegas is just the place to do it, and we hope fans from across the country will join us for nonstop competition from the nation’s best lifters.” USA Weightlifting applied for Guinness World Record certification as the largest Olympic weightlifting competition ever. Contributing to the record turnout, the American Open Series 3 will be the first national competition to use the new bodyweight categories established by the International Weightlifting Federation in July. This is one of the first opportunities for athletes to set new American records in each new bodyweight category. New American Record Standards can be found here. The competition also marks an international celebration of the sport. International Technical Officials from around the Pan American region came to Las Vegas to help officiate the event. 2018 Brazilian Weightlifting Championships

IWF Seminar in Serbia

An IWF Development Program Seminar intended for coaches, referees and administrators was held in Serbia on 23-27 August 2018.   The lecturers on behalf of the IWF were Mr. Jesmond Caruana, Malta Weightlifting Federation President and EWF Technical Committee Member and Mr Salim Musoke, Uganda Weightlifting Federation President and Weightlifting Federation Africa First Vice President. Topics included correct weightlifting technique, IWF technical rules and regulations and Qualification System for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Practical and theoretical lessons were conducted in 3 cities across the country, Belgrade, Bac and Subotica, with altogether more than 70 participants. The practical part of the Subotica Seminar was held in conjunction with the 33rd International Subotica Cup. A National Olympic Committee meeting was also held in Serbia.
