IX Central American Games in Panama had successful weightlifting

David Colón Arroyo reports from Puerto Rico: From 8-12 April the IXth edition of the traditional Central American Games were held in Panamá City with the participation of five countries in  weightlifting;  HON, NCA, CRC, ESA, and the host PAN.  It was an activity in which Puerto Rico provided the human and electronic resources and Dominican Republic contributed with the training and competition barbell sets that made the whole event a sucess.  We had to transform a basketball court into a weightlifting venue in less than 24 hours, and the job rested mostly over the shoulders of the Technical Officials, who did more than just call the lifts.  Official website: IX Central American

Youth Olympic Qualification Event for Pan America completed in Chiclayo, Peru

After Africa and Asia, Pan America also organized and completed the Continental Qualification Event for the 1st Youth Olympic Games, Singapore. The Organizing Committee under the leadership of Mr. José Quiñones (President of the Weightlifting Federation and Olympic Committee of Peru) made a great job satisfying the needs of all the 17 participating countries. The IWF Team with the IWF TIS contributed to the efficiency and the success of the competitions. Countries qualified in Chiclayo for the YOG (with 1 lifter each): MEN: VEN, CUB, MEX, ECU,  WOMEN:  MEX, VEN, ECU (Qualification to be reconfirmed after closure of anti-doping controls) Congratulations to both the hosts and the participating teams!Full results available on this website. IWF delegation at the annual SportAccord Convention in Dubai

At the annual gathering of all the decision makers, organisers, organisations, companies, media, etc. important in the world of sport, the SportAccord 2010 in Dubai, the IWF was represented by Ma Wenguang, General Secretary, Attila Ádámfi, Competition Director and Wang Yan, Assistant to the General Secretary. In addition to their participation in the General Assemblies of GAISF/SportAccord, ASOIF meeting with the IOC Executive Board, the delegation conducted a series of important meetings with future Games and Championships organisers and the IOC Directors.

Antalya visit promises high quality World Championships in 2010

THF President Dr. Hasan Akkus and IWF Director Anikó Németh-Móra at the Competition Venue President of the Turkish Weightlifting Federation, Dr. Hasan AKKUS welcomed IWF Director, Mrs. Anikó NÉMETH-MÓRA for a technical coordination visit in Antalya, in preparation of the 2010 World Championships.During the visit in Antalya, a favourite seaside resort place in Southern Turkey, all venues and accommodation sites of the World Championships were inspected and conditions were discussed. The modern multi-purpose venue, the "Antalya Expo Center" was designated as the home for the competitions of the World Championships, which is a main qualification event for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Expo Center is close to both the Airport and to the accommodation of the participants. An Organising Committee has been established, whereby the company "Ayder Turizm" was entrusted with the task of managing the Championships. "Ayder" has good reputation and vast experience by organising the 2005 IWF Electoral Congress and Centenary in Istanbul and the 2006  World University Championships in Izmir. Two 5-star seaside thematic hotel complexes, the "Kremlin Palace" and the "Topkapi Palace" will accommodate the participants in the famous and luxurious Turkish all-inclusive style and system. Further rooms were booked at the adjacent "Veneziana Palace", as the interest will probably be very high in the month of September, which is full season in Antalya. Following the usual IWF meetings and Congress, the competitions will run from 17th to 26th September 2010 - with the precise and detailed schedule to follow
