Massive Oceania Championships mark 30th Anniversary of OWF

Suva, capital of Fiji, under the chairmanship of Dr. Robin Mitchell, IOC Member and ONOC President, hosted the combined Senior-Junior and Youth Oceania Championships which welcomed a large turnout with 137 athletes representing 16 countries in Oceania.The Youth Championships served at the same time as the Oceania Qualification event for the 1st Youth Olympic Games. The following nations won qualification for Singapore: AUS, FIJ, NZL - 1 boy + 1 girlPNG - 1 boy The triple Championships proved to be a worthy celebration of the Oceanian Weightlifting Federation's 30th Anniversary. The greetings and a diploma of appreciation of the IWF and OWF co-founder IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján were conveyed to the OWF, represented by its General Secretary Paul Coffa on the occasion of the Federation's Congress. A valuable and meaningful Technical Course, within the framework of the IWF Development Program was held for the participants under the guidance of Sam Coffa, IWF TC President and Attila Ádámfi, IWF Competition Director as lecturer. The President of the host country, Fiji, Hon. Epeli Nailatikau honoured the event with his high presence - every day!

In Memoriam Jenő Boskovics

The memorial service of the late Editor-in-Chief of World Weightlifting and IWF Spokesman Jenő Boskovics took place on 14th May 2010 in Budapest. Following the sermon, speakers evoked the dear memory of the deceased in the presence of the family and many friends. His longtime friend and former colleague-journalist on the AIPS Weightlifting Commission and the Hungarian Sport Writers Association Zoltán Novotny (himself former IWF Spokesman) reminded those mourning of the professional and human qualities of Jenő Boskovics, who was an icon in Hungarian and international sports journalism. On behalf of the IWF, Anikó Németh-Móra spoke in a moving address of her colleague for the last 33 years, expressing the sorrow of the entire Weightlifting Family. May he rest in
