IWF Technical Visit exactly 2 Years Before Opening of London 2012 OG

IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján, and Competition Director Mr. Attila Ádámfi are sojourning in London for a technical visit. Today, the 27th of July 2010 marks exactly Two Years to Go until the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Youth Olympic Flame begins journey from Greece to Singapore

The Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame got under way today in Olympia, Greece, with the lighting of the flame at an official ceremony outside the famed Temple of Hera. Using the sun's rays and a parabolic mirror, a holy priestess lit the flame before entering the Ancient Olympic Stadium and passing the torch to the Journey's first torchbearer, Apostolos Koutavas, who will represent Greece in trampoline at the Youth Olympic Games. Watch the lighting of the flame In the 22 days leading up to the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, some 2,400 torchbearers will take the flame to all five continents in a journey designed to promote the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect among the youth of the world. The Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame, under the initiation of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, will arrive in Berlin on 24 July before moving on to Dakar (26 July), Mexico City (30 July), Auckland (1 August) and Seoul (4 August). A six-day torch relay beginning 5 August is planned for the final destination, Singapore, where the Youth Olympic Games will take place from 14 to 26 August.

New contact for IWF Referee Uniforms

The IWF is officially announcing that as of now the IWF Referee Uniforms will be manufactured in Thailand, under the guidance and care of the Thai Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA - [email protected] ). At the same time, no further orders should be placed with Vargas Co. which is no longer the official supplier of the IWF

International Olympic Academy bestows ‘Athina’ Award on Dr. Ajan

At the IOA Session Opening Ceremony on the Hill of Pnyx in Athens, the organisation bestowed its Award 'Athina' on IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján. Dr. Aján's over 30 years long contributions to the International Olympic Academy and his devoted services as President of the Hungarian Olympic Academy were thus appreciated and honoured by the representatives of the IOA and the Greek Sport. The presentation was performed by Mr. Isidoros Kouvelos, President of the International Olympic Academy. Mr. Pavlos Yeroulanos, Minister of Culture and Tourism and weightlifting hero and triple Olympic champion Pyrros Dimas were also in attendance and offered their congratulations to Dr. Aján.
