Hosts pocketed most victories at the 2010 University Worlds

The Chinese Taipei teams proved to be most successful at the 2nd FISU World University Championships with both their men's and the women's teams. The 2010 WUC was concluded at the Taiwan National College of Physical Education in the country's 3rd largest city, Taichung. With the participation slightly marred by the global economic crisis and the density of the international calendar, the 2nd edition of the official FISU World Championships welcomed 10 nations with female and 14 nations with male athletes.The IWF was represented at this event by its highest-ranking officials, with Dr. Tamás Aján, President being the main Guest of Honour and Executive members Maj.Gen. Yodbangtoey and Mr. Ong Poh Eng among the Technical Officials.FISU Executive Committee Member and CISCA Chair Mr. Bayasgalan Danzandorj expressed full satisfaction and great praise for the Chinese Taipei University Federation and the local Organising Committee for the excellent organisation, the conditions and hospitality offered in Taichung. Many nations celebrate champions 4 days into the University Worlds

The host Chinese Taipei University Sport Federation, the Taiwan National College of Physical Education and the CTWA receive nothing but praise from the participants of the 2nd FISU World University Championships for providing perfect conditions in the city of Taichung. Indeed, both the accommodation, the board, the hospitality and the technical facilities are faultless and enable the participating athletes to bring their best performance on the stage.   On the fourth day of the Championships and with one more day to go, the distribution of medals shows a very coloourful picture. The host country TPE, JPN, THA, USA, POL, ARM, CAN, SVK have all been able to celebrate gold medal winners among the men and women.   Consult the Results and watch the Live Scoreboard on this website.  

2nd World University Championships about to open in Taichung

The 2010 World University Weightlifting Championships - the first such world-scale event in this sport to be held in Taiwan - are about to open tomorrow, on 1st July, in Taichung City, TPE.The National Taiwan Sports University, the largest in the country, will host the Championships on 1-5 July 2010. The IWF is represented at the highest level by President Dr. Tamás Aján and several Executive Board Members, among them, in the capacity as co-host, 1st Vice President Chang Chao-Kuo, President of the CTWA. The START LIST is already available and through the IWF Technology and Information System - as usual - LIVE SCOREBOARD will be provided for those interested in the progress of the competitions.

Final dates for 2010 World Championships in Antalya!

IWF President praises Bulgarian hosts for the successful organisation

Dr. Tamás AJÁN, IWF President expressed the gratitude and congratulations of the Weightlifting Family to the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation for successfully hosting the Junior World Championships in Sofia, 13-20 June 2010. He pointed out that the BWF, under the guidance of its President Anton KODJABASHEV, fulfilled the commitment previously given to the IWF and confirmed by the country's former Olympic Champions. The Federation managed to organise the JWC at a commendable standard despite a difficult environment and lack of funding from the Bulgarian government due to the Federation's currently pending status and internal problems. Solis (COL) and Aukhadov (RUS) voted as Best Lifters of 2010 JWC

Colombian Leidy Yessenia SOLIS (in 69kg) and Apti AUKHADOV from Russia (in 85kg) were elected by the IWF Press Commission as the Best Female and Best Male Lifters of the 2010 Junior World Championships in Sofia. Solis, who - despite her junior age - can already boast significant international success and world medals, was the happy recipient of the "Eleiko-IWF Press Commission Trophy" for the women; while only 18-year-old rookie from Russia, Apti Aukhadov could rejoice over taking the "Eleiko-IWF Press Commission Trophy" for the men.
