First Competition for Clubs organised by the Malta Weightlifting Association

Four clubs took part in the first Competition for Clubs organised earlier this month by the Malta Weightlifting Association at the Cottonera Sports Complex. Cottonera Club fielded 11 lifters and ranked first in the final standings. Clint Grech competing at the Cottonera Club was the best lifter of the event. The competition was run by the Malta Weightlifting Association President Jesmond Caruana whose impressive work to promote weightlifting contributed to the major success of the event. With the participation of experienced referees, the Malta Weightlifting Association showed its professionalism and delivered a great competition. IWF visits Commonwealth Games Federation

As part of their programme in the United Kingdom, Sam Coffa (IWF Vice President) and Attila Ádámfi (IWF Competition Director) visited the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Headquarters where they were received by Mike Hooper, Chief Executive Officer. As a core-sport on the Commonwealth Games programme since 2006, the IWF officials discussed various operational matters pertaining to ‘Glasgow 2014' after which the IWF thanked the CGF for its continued support and cooperative rapport. Mr. Coffa, within his capacity as the President of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association also reaffirmed the Gold Coast's bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games. London 2012 celebrates 1 Year To Go

With one year to go until the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, preparations are on track and London's vision to host Games that inspires the world is set to become reality. The Olympic Stadium lights up to mark the one year to go milestone! London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) Chair Seb Coe said: 'With a year to go we are inviting the athletes, spectators and visitors from around the world to come to the UK next summer - it's ‘London Calling'. Waiting for them will be a spectacular festival of sport and culture in the world's greatest city, which will be more magical and vibrant than ever. 'There is much to do in the next 12 months, but we can take huge comfort in the progress that has been made so far. We are absolutely on track and determined to stage Olympic and Paralympic Games which will deliver on the promises we made in Singapore, inspire the athletes and make the nation proud.' A total of 15,000 athletes from over 200 countries will compete in the Olympic and Parlaympic Games next summer, and preparations are on track to ensure London 2012 is one of the most spectacular Games ever.
