Chinese World Champions crowned in W53kg and M62kg

W53kg Ending the Snatch with 88kg, ZHU Qiaoling (CHN) came out at 105kg for her first attempt in the Clean and Jerk. Securing the victory with this first lift, she came out to give 109kg a try – successful. She missed her third lift at 111kg but won the Gold easily. Surprisingly, HANHUR Mariia (UKR) reached a 3rd and 4th place and that result (188kg) was still enough for a Silver Medal in the Total while 4th and 3rd place PANKOVA Liudmila (BLR) won the Bronze medal with 186kg. Earning Silver in the Snatch but ending 7th in the Clean and Jerk, NOVITSKAIA Kristina (RUS) missed the podium by 1kg and ended 4th. After an unfortunate start and no three missed attempts in the Snatch (85kg-85kg-87kg), LANDOULSI Nouha’s (TUN) starting weight in the Clean and Jerk also seemed too high. Missing once at 105kg, her second attempt was a good one and earned her a silver. M62kg It was an easy win for LIN Zhixiang (CHN) – having no challenger in the Men’s 62kg. With 130kg-160kg-290kg, he came out only once in the Clean and Jerk and won all Gold Medals available. After a third place in the Snatch, his fellow countryman WEI Chengzuo (CHN) started to high in the Clean and Jerk and missed to lift 159kg three times not being able to secure a Total. This brought the Clean and Jerk Bronze Medal to MAU Jon Luke (GER). With three good lifts and a last one at 154kg, he only ended 1kg behind Silver Medallist HIGUITA BARRERA Luis Fernando (COL). Third place in the Total went to KUVANC Cumali (TUR) also missing two attempts in the Clean and Jerk – one at 148kg and the other at

With her Total of 174kg – 5kg less than SUKCHAROEN – she ended ahead of OLIVEIRA MADEIRA Luana (BRA) ranking only 6th in the Clean and Jerk. The advantage taken by the Brazilian lifter in the Snatch seemed to be enough for the third place in the Total with 169kg. M56kg – Japan made it to the podium Taking an advantage of 11kg in the Snatch with 120kg, the Chinese lifter WANG Hao (CHN) won the Gold easily even if he only managed to grab third place in the Clean and Jerk. After a Bronze in the Snatch, LAI Gia Thanh (VIE) won the Gold in the Clean and Jerk with 140kg. Japan made it to the podium as MASHIKO Hiroyuki (JPN) having 6 good stood up on the third place of the podium to be handed over the Bronze for his Total of 244kg. IWF Executive Board statement reflecting on the IOC decision

Following the IOC decision dated 9 June 2017, the IWF Executive Board met in Tokyo and discussed the issues raised. Stating that the IWF has always been fighting with determination against doping and those willing to affect the integrity of weightlifting sport, the Executive Board is this time again ready to adopt immediate actions and sanctions. As a first result of the open discussion, the Executive Board confirms that a high level task force will recommend the different measures and initiatives to accomplish the due goals. Recognizing that there is always way for improvement, the IWF aims to strengthen the collaboration between the IOC, NOCs and Member Federations that is vital for an effective common fight and prevent such situations. We are one - with the same message: united behind our sport! IWF Executive
