Seminars in Buenos Aires

A couple of days before the start of the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Argentinean Weightlifting Federation organized different seminars through the Continental Contribution given to the Pan American Weightlifting Federation by the International Weightlifting Federation.

The first seminar was about Anti-Doping, Dr. Victor Carpio (PER) gave lectures about prohibited substances, medicines, the different treatments for athletes in case of illness. The seminar ended with a workshop of sample collection procedure. The presented topics were very useful for the participants, especially the practical part.

Mr. Pyrros Dimas (GRE), IWF Executive Board member, 3 times Olympic Champion was the expert for the Coaching Seminar. He talked about how to start weightlifting with children, how to execute properly the different movements and about training system. Furthermore, he narrated his sports career, starting weightlifting at age 7 and finishing it at 33 with four Olympic medals.

 

Lastly, preparing for the YOG the Argentinean Federation held a two-day seminar for the National Technical Officials who are working at the Games. Ms. Maritza Ortiz (DOM), Mr. Pedro Torres (VEN) and Mr. Marcelo Melnick (ARG), International Technical Officials of category 1, explained the rules, exclusively the ones special for the Games (Rule 50).

After the theoretical sessions, the participants went around the Olympic weightlifting venue so they could get familiar with the various places such as weigh-in, warm-up, competition area. The symposium was enriching for the young Technical Officials who have the responsibility to collaborate in all work positions with the International TOs.

The Argentinean Weightlifting Federation expressed its gratitude to all lecturers and those who supported the seminars.
