First World Champion crowned: THACH Kim Tuan

Competition kicked off yesterday at the 2017 IWF World Championships Anaheim, USA however the first World Champion was crowned today in the Men’s 56kg bodyweight category.

THACH Kim Tuan (VIE), Silver and Bronze medallist at previous competitions managed to stand on the highest place of the podium with a Total of 279kg.

Youth Olympic Champion in 2014, he came out for his first Snatch after all the lifters took their attempts. Lifting 126kg, he started the Clean and Jerk with a 7kg advantage over TRAN Le Quoc Toan (VIE). TRAN, 5th place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games got third in the Clean and Jerk with 151kg missing 154kg twice.

Only 5th in the Snatch, MINGMOON Witoon (THA) managed to come up second with 152kg and got the Bronze medal in the Total with 267kg.

With a great lift at 118kg in the Snatch, BRACHI GARCIA Josue (ESP) was awarded a Bronze.

Surprisingly one of the favourites of the competition two times European Champion SCARANTINO Mirco (ITA) couldn’t secure his lifts in the Snatch and didn’t finish the competition.
