Hitting high numbers, three athletes came out in the Snatch after everyone else. They did the exact same in the Clean and Jerk.
The competition for the medals in the Snatch started with the 86kg lift of KUZGANBAYEVA Karina (KAZ) going for three good attempts and ending third with 94kg. Pan-American athletes RIVAS MOSQUERA Valeria (COL) and PALACIOS DAJOMES Angie Paola (ECU) reached higher numbers. RIVAS went up to 95kg while PALACIOS took 100kg.
They were the major contenders for the Gold Medal and kept their position all along the Clean and Jerk and Total in the exact same order.
PALACIOS DAJOMES Angie Paola (ECU) was the only one with 6 good lifts and showed an impressive technique. RIVAS MOSQUERA Valeria (COL) ended second with a Total of 209kg while KUZGANBAYEVA Karina (KAZ) finished third with 207kg.

The Snatch competition was an easy win for the Polish lifter ADAMUS Bartolomiej Stefan (POL). Ranking 6th at the 2016 IWF Youth World Championships with a Total of 290kg in the 77kg bodyweight category, he improved his Snatch by 13kg reaching 143kg here in Bangkok.
Silver Medallist in the Snatch, BAKICI Tolga (TUR) was weaker in the Clean and Jerk and only got to a Total of 301kg and couldn’t get close to the podium.
The Clean and Jerk competition determined the final ranking and the leading position of ADAMUS became compromised after lifts from ANTROPOV, AL AJMI and PAPI. His 6 good lifts – last Clean and Jerk being 175kg – brought him a Silver just like his Total of 318kg.
ANTROPOV Artyom (KAZ) only 7th at the last year’s Youth World Championships with 309kg improved his Total by 14kg and reached the highest step of the podium winning the Gold twice – in the Clean and Jerk with 185kg and Total with 323kg.
Third place went to PAPI Mahdi (IRI). Missing a Snatch (134kg) and ranking 7th, he came back for 3 good lifts in the Clean and Jerk ranking 4th. With his Total of 304kg he won the Bronze in the Total.
The Clean and Jerk result of the Omani lifter AL AJMI Murshid Mohamed Murshid (OMA) deserves a special mention. Ranking 13th in the Snatch, he got a Bronze Medal in the Clean and Jerk with 173kg.

Securing a 1kg advantage in the Snatch, PASTUKHOVA Olga (KAZ) came out for her first lift in the Clean and Jerk at 110kg securing herself a Total. Winning three Gold Medals, she came out for her second and third attempts without any pressure for medals. Lifting 115kg with ease, she did the same with 120kg. Her Total of 211kg couldn’t be equaled.
Tension was on between the Uzbek and Mexican lifters fighting for the Silver.
AKHMADOVA Gulnoza (UZB) was 13 when participating in her first Youth World Championships in 2013 where she ended 25th. Her major contender was GUTIERREZ LOPEZ Angela Yazmin (MEX) having only a 1kg advantage after the Snatch.
