First European medal – Gold in the Snatch for GARAEV Zulfat
Three good lifts in the Snatch earned the Gold Medal to SINISTER TORRES Yenny (COL) going 80-83-85kg. She missed two of her Clean and Jerk attempt and couldn’t earn a place on the podium for her Total of 185kg.
Winning all kind of medals, YU Mengqian (CHN) won the most important one, the Gold in the Total. Ending second in the Snatch and third in the Clean and Jerk, she won the Gold with a Total of 189kg – a 1kg advantage over KIM Il Gyong (PRK).
Strong in the Clean and Jerk, KIM had 3 good lifts and secured herself the Silver in the Total.
Seemed that the other Chinese lifter HUANG Xuemei (CHN) would have good medal chances too, but after her second place in the Clean and Jerk with 106kg, but her 186kg Total was only enough to equal the result of KONOTOP Kamila (UKR). The Ukrainian lifter won a Bronze in the Snatch and in the Total while finishing 5th in the Clean and Jerk.
Russia made it’s entry to the medal tally at the 2017 IWF Youth World Championships Bangkok, Thailand. GARAEV Zulfat (RUS) won the first European Medal – Gold – in the Snatch with 128kg.
After showing his supremacy in the Snatch, he came out in the Clean and Jerk on a starting weight of 151kg. After missing it once, twice, he missed the third attempt too so couldn’t secure a Total.
Snatch Silver Medallist SAVELYEV Anatoliy (KAZ) secured his position in the Clean and Jerk with a first lift of 147kg. He then came out for two more good attempt. With 6 good lifts, he won the Gold Medal in the Total with 281kg.
After three good lifts in the Snatch, WEI Yunban (CHN) came out for his first attempt in the Clean and Jerk at 150kg but the weight seemed to heavy and he had to give it another try. Succeeding at his second one, he took his last lift of 156kg but couldn’t take away the victory from SAVELYEV.
With a 4th and 5th place, SETIAWAN Muhammad Halim (INA) needed a bit of luck too but stood on the third place of the podium for his Total of 267kg.
