IWF visit in Tokyo

On the occasion of the IWF Technical visit for the 2017 IWF Junior World Championships Tokyo, JPN Attila Adami, Director General met the Organizing Committee led by Japan Weightlifting Association President Yoshiyuki Miyake. The delegation went to meet Suzuki Daichi, Japan Sport Minister who gave assurance of his support.

Attila Adamfi with Reiko Chinen participated in the Tokyo 2020 Sport Managers’ meeting and met Yoshiro Mori, Tokyo 2020 President and Koji Murofushi, Tokyo 2020 Sport Director.

Despite difficulties faced by the Organizing Committee, weightlifting is assured to maintain its centrally located venue – Tokyo International Forum.

Since the IWF introduced an 8th Women bodyweight category in order to achieve gender equality, the request for inclusion on the program of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was officially submitted to the IOC.   The request was also discussed during the meetings with Tokyo 2020 leaders.

Tokyo 2020 also started the collect of discarded electronic devices with the hope of collecting as much as eight tonnes of gold, silver and bronze in order to produce the Olympic Medals for the Games.

The International Weightlifting Federation became the first IF to contribute to the Tokyo 2020 Medal Project with the donation of discarded telephones.
