European Union Weightlifting Confederation founded
Reviving traditions from the 1970s and ’80s when the then member countries of the European Union used to hold their regular weightlifting championships, Member Federations currently belonging to EU member countries decided to establish their regional federation. At a Congress held in Split, Croatia, the European Union Weightlifting Confederation was founded with 16 countries of the 27 EU members being represented. The EUWC Constitution was adopted and officers were elected. On the following days the European Union Cup competition was held in Split, an event the new organisation wants to stage annually, to provide competititon opportunities for all age groups of the region.
