At a recent visit to the Tatarstan capital, Kazan, FISU Technical Delegate Anikó Németh-Móra approved the competition venue for this summer’s Universiade. The “Ak Bure” (“White Wolf”) Sports Hall, now serving the one of Kazan’s ice hockey clubs, will be used for weightlifting at the University Games coming up in July.

The construction of the new venues and the reconstruction of existing venues for the 26 different sports on the Universiade program is in full progress in Kazan. About 7,000 athletes are expected to participate, of which around 400 in weightlifting.

Already now, as per the preliminary entries, 42 countries have indicated to send male, and 32 countries to enter female competitors in weightlifting, and more are expected to nominate lifters.

Both the IWF and the Russian Weightlifting Federation are providing their full support to the Organising Committee of the 2013 Universiade in all technical matters.
