Athletes kept up the tension in Baku

Women’s 58kg bodyweight category:

The Russian lifter ALEEVA Tatiana, European Junior Champion in 2011 and the Albanian lifter BEGAJ Romela, Silver Medallist at the European Championships in 2012 were fighting for the Gold Medal in the women’s 58kg.

They closely followed each other and only the last attempts of the Clean and Jerk could decide on the victory. ALEEVA took the Gold with a Total of 207kg. LOCHOWSKA Joanna (POL) ended up third with 15kg less than the Silver Medallist BEGAJ.

Men’s 69kg bodyweight category:

CHEN Oleg (RUS) came out last for his attempts in the Snatch and in three perfect attempts he gained a 14kg advantage on the next best, BAYRAMOV of Azerbaijan.

However, even this great performance wasn’t enough to defeat the two Azerbaijani lifters, GULIYEV Firudin and BAYRAMOV Afgan. Both athletes showed impressive strength and technique in the clean and jerk. The trio taking alternative lifts kept up the tension until the very last moment. The Gold Medal finally went to the 18 year old GULIYEV Firudin, while CHEN Oleg won the Silver leaving BAYRAMOV in the Bronze Medal position.
