2017 Universiade allocated to Taipei City, Chinese Taipei

At its meeting now ongoing in Brussels, after careful evaluation the FISU Board attributed the 2017 Summer Universiade to Taipei City, Chinese Taipei.

Taipei City won against another strong candidate: Brasilia, Brazil.

‘I thank FISU for choosing my city to host the 2017 Summer Universiade’, Taipei City Mayor Hau said. ‘After bidding five times to get the Games we finally got them! We promise a close collaboration with FISU to make these Games one of the best Universiades in FISU history.’

FISU President Gallien added: ‘A lot of the EC members were convinced of the quality of the bidding book and the presentation and preparations of Taipei City. The National University Sport Federation of Chinese Taipei is a very active one. It has hosted many World University Championships, it will host the Forum in 2012 and now FISU’s flagship event, the Universiade, in 2017. I’m confident Taipei City will deliver some wonderful Games.’

We may remember that the 2nd World University Weightlifting Championships were hosted by Taichung, Chinese Taipei, in 2010.

Congratulations to our friends in Chinese Taipei!

At the same time, the organisation of the 28th Winter Universiade 2017 was attributed to Almaty, Kazakhstan.
