Weightlifting Family mourns Wally Holland, OBE

While in Penang, at the Junior World Championships, the IWF Family received the sad news that Walter (Wally) Holland, one of the most prominent IWF and EWF officials died in Oxford, Great Britain.

After serving as Assistant Secretary of the IWF, from 1976 to 1984 he was Executive Member, 1984-1988 Vice President of the IWF. He was the President of the European Federation 1987 to 1999. An emblematic figure in weightlifting, known to all as “Wally”, Mr. Holland became a Member of the Weightlifting Hall of Fame in 1995. His wit, humour and vitality which he kept for a very long time, well into his 80s, made him a popular and beloved figure all around the world. His great services to his country were rewarded by HM the Queen by the OBE title.

Inernational and European Weightlifting has lost a great leader. Our sympathy goes to Wally Holland’s family and British Weightlifting.
