During the women’s 63kg category in Group A the Turkish lifter SIMSEK Sibel got an injury at the medial side of her right elbow while performing her second Snatch. Even though she found enough strength to keep her second place and win a silver medal in that lift and took the second place in Total. Last year’s World Champion MANEZA Maiya (KAZ) finished first in Total and in Clean & Jerk where she managed to break the previous World Record setting the new one at 143kg. Columbia, Korea and People’s Republic of Korea were also within the medal winning countries besides the Chinese lifter OUYANG Xiaofang who won gold medal in Snatch.

Men’s 69kg category

LIAO Hui (CHN), Olympic Champion of 2008 and World Champion of 2009 waited for everyone to come out before performing his first Clean & Jerk. He started higher than his rivals, at 184kg. After his first good lift he broke the previous World Record in the second attempt. By the end of the competition, he also broke BOEVSKI Galabin’s Total becoming the new World Record holder with 358kg and winning his second gold medal in this bodyweight category. In Snatch both the Chinese lifter and the Turkish lifter BINAY Mete tried to break the 165kg record, but they both failed in their efforts. However, the performance of BINAY Mete allowed him to win the gold as was lighter than LIAO Hui. This year’s European Champion the Romanian MICULESCU Ninel won a third place in Snatch, and was awarded the silver medal for his accomplishment in Total. The Russian lifter KAZARYAN Armen stepped up to podium to take over the bronze.
