New World Record set by Turkey on the first day!

The host country won 6 of the 9 medals aspired by the athletes on the first day of the competition. . Turkey won 3 gold medals, 2 silvers and a bronze at the World Championships Antalya in the women 48 kg category. TAYLAN Nurcan, the gold medalist of the Olympic Games 2004 and bronze medalist of the 2009 World Championships in Goyang won all 3 gold medals in Snatch, Clean & Jerk and in Total. She set a World Record in Clean & Jerk with lifting 121kg thus adding 1 kg to Chinese CHEN’s former record.

The second Turkish athlete ŐZKAN Sibel, silver medalist of the 2009 World Championships in Goyang, kept her second place in the Total with 205 kg and in Snatch with 90 kg, but in Clean & Jerk, her performance of 115kg was only enough to win her a bronze medal.


The 17 years old Chinese weightlifter TIAN Yuan, gold medalist of the first Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore set 3 Youth World Records in the 48kg category in Snatch, Clean & Jerk and in Total. The now 7 times World record holder athlete won two bronze medals (Snatch: 88kg, Total: 204kg) and managed to take the second place in the Clean & Jerk with 116kg right ahead of ŐZKAN Sibel.
