IWF gives urgent help to Haitian weightlifters
Since the devastating earthquake and subsequent human catastrophy in Haiti, the IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján and the IWF office have been in touch permanently with the President of the Weightlifting Federation of Haiti. According to information received from Mr. Gerard Fong, the lives of Haiti’s weightlifters were fortunately spared, however, they lost their homes and means of existence. Therefore, following the initiative of the IWF President, the IWF is furnishing prompt assistance to Haitian Weightlifting: first a lump sum of 5,000 USD – through the neighbouring Dominican Federation – to help the athletes to means of livelihood, to be followed later by material help in the value of another 5,000 USD.
