Great media attention as Steiner visits Austria

One has never experienced such a great media attention about weightlifting as today. Four television stations have agreed to come to record Matthias Steiner, together with the German national team, as they participate at the 16th International Günter Stapfer Memorial on 5 September at 17.00 clock in Braunau. This event is to test their preparation for World Championships in November. For Matthias Steiner it will be the first competition after his Olympic victory on 19th August 2008 in Beijing. The ex-Austrian Steiner had his last competition in Austria at the Austrian Championships in Vösendorf on 14 May 2005. Since January 2008 he has his German Passport.

The following lifters of the German national team will start in Braunau:
Matthias Steiner (Chemnitz AC) – Olympic champion in Beijing in 2008, the European champion for tearing 2008th Almir Velagic (1981 – AV 03 Speyer) – Vice European Champion 2009 in the class + 105 kg, 8th Olympia 2008, 3 x National Champion. Jurgen Spiess (1984 – AV 03 Speyer) – European champion 2009 in the class to 94 kg, 9th Olympia 2008, 7 x National Champion. Michael Böhm (1984 – ASK Frankfurt / Oder) – World Cup finalists in 2006 and 2007, 3rd Junior Championship 2004 in total, junior vice-European champion in C&J 2004th Jacob Neufeld (1983 – AC Goliath Mengede) – 2-times National Champion 2002 and 2007. Tom Schwarzach (1986 – Chemnitzer AC) – 3 x National Champion from 2006 to 2008, 5 Juniors EM 2006.
