European Federation has a new President from Italy

At its Congress held on 13 April 2008 in Venice, in the presence of 44 member nations out of 48, the European Weightlifting Federation elected its office-bearers for the next four-year cycle.

President: Antonio Urso (ITA)
General Secretary: Marino Ercolani Casadei (SMR)
Vice Presidents: 1st – Anton Kodjabashev (BUL), Yuri Sandalov (RUS), Dr. Hasan Akkus (TUR), Zygmunt Wasiela (POL) and Per Mattingsdal (NOR)
Executive Board Members: Petr Krol (CZE), Benny Johansson (SWE), Steve Cannon (GBR), Esat Ademi (ALB), Alexander Kurlovich (BLR), Emilio Estarlik (ESP)

The Congress also elected new Committees to the EWF; the lists will be published on the EWF homepage.

As of 14th April 2008, the European Championships will take place in Lignano Sabbiadoro, providing qualification opportunity for 5 countries for men and 3 countries for women to the Beijing Olympic Games.
