Opening of African Training Centre in Suez

In February 2006, an agreement was concluded in Egypt between the Governor of Suez, Mr. Gamil Hanna, President of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa and Dr. Tamás Aján, IWF President on the project of a weightlifting training centre. In a matter of just over a year, the new International-African Training Centre was now officially inaugurated in the presence of the IWF President, the WFA President, the Governor of Suez and the President of the Arab Federation, Mr. Ibrahim, on 17 May 2007.

The building and the various facilities (sauna, locker rooms, infrastructure, etc.) were assured by the Suez Government, while the weightlifting equipment was provided by the International Federation.

Athletes can train on 10 platforms at a time, and even prior to the opening three national teams had used the new, modern facility.
