Busan 2005 Junior Worlds Kickoff
Prior to the start of the Junior World Championships
in Busan, Korea, the Executive Board of the International
Weightlifting Federation met and took several important
decisions.
Among those, it appointed the Chairmen of the IWF
Committees:
Chairman of the IWF Technical Committee: Sam COFFA,
AUS, the 1st Vice President of the IWF,
Chairman of the IWF
Medical Committee: Dr. Shimon BARAK, ISR
Chairman of the IWF
Scientific and Research Committee: Dragomir CIOROSLAN, USA.
Each of the three Committees were then completed
with four members.
A separate IWF Anti-Doping Commission was formed –
chaired by Philippe Saint-Cyr, CAN – with the double task of
defining strategies, selecting athletes to the test and performing
the actual drug controls.
The organisation of the 2008 Junior World
Championships was allocated to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory,
Canada.
The world events in weightlifting in the next few
years will take place as follows:

The Congress of the IWF approved the affiliation of
two new members:
Bhutan
Mali
With them, the membership of
the International Federation grew to 175.
